Appears the NRL is considering a magic round every week from rd2? So that every team is in one place and not spread out everywhere which is more chance of a club catching COVID19.

But that would mean a hard limit of 30 club peoples incl players per club, and 20 peeps to run everything (to comply with govt set limit of 500 people)

Never mind you are trying to contact a communicable disease by...making a big crowd of people

Making up laws off the tops of their heads again, at least let in a couple of thousand so there is a bit of noise.
Total knee jerk, concentrate on a vaccine.

Now I have not read any previous posts in this thread but here is my take on the matter. It is fine to try to minimise the spread of COVID-19 and the NRL feels that the best way to safeguard the well being of the public is to lock them out as per guidelines from the Federal Government who are following the lead of their counterparts in other countries.

This would mean no masses of bodies in confined spaces, no touching, theoretically minimizing the spread of the virus within the general population . The NRL says to players don't shake hands which is well and good too but please tell me this ... Is the game not a contact sport? They certainly won't shake hands but honestly they will be doing plenty of touching of sweaty bodies for 80 minutes, physical contact at close quarters. Are they going to test each player before every round to see if they may be carrying the virus? What protection of the well being of players in this regard?

Additionally what sort of compensation will the season ticket holders get for being denied access to something they have already paid for? As it stands if you don't attend a game that is on your head and you get no compensation. Wonder if the NRL has conditions like the travel companies and cruise ships etc. where if you have to cancel due to the type of situation we are facing now you are penalised. At least the aforesaid cruise companies are "postponing" cruises now meaning although your travel is delayed you will eventually get there without being penalized for something beyond your control. People take out insurance but this is not covered.

We are living in strange times and we have to accept that certain measures need to be taken but precautions taken are also sometimes not to our liking. Will be interesting.....

It comes after the season-opener attracted a crowd of 21,363 for the Parramatta Eels and Canterbury Bulldogs game on Thursday night, despite the match at the 30,000-seat Bankwest Stadium declared a sell-out earlier in the week.
Found it strange they said sell out and there were plenty of empty seats at the stadium. How many of those people will be pissed off if compensation is offered to those who can't attend due to lock out. That may be why the crowds are still allowed in this round.

This virus bullshit is a blessing for the nrlol, they can blame the smaller crowds and less interest on it instead of the shit product it is.
Gold. I have begun to really detest some of the things happening in the game these days. Once again, even though the officials struggled to officiate to the letter of the law last season we have a raft of rule changes this year. Good luck with that.

Hope you are well and staying out of the line of fire.

Vaccine would be nice but already they have said 12-18 months at least.

They're working on a vaccine. Should be ready in 12 to 18 months.

Thanks Mama, St Vincent's told us transplant people not to panic and just be more careful. I'm not worried, I've dealt with worse before ;)

My boys first trial for the season is tomorrow so just got to hang back from the crowd.

PS they told us to avoid medical centres and ER's unless urgent. Might be a good tip for you "normies" too

Some of our sport up this way has been put off until further notice. Good luck with the game tomorrow, from what I can remember of EJ and his efforts at the Belmore BBQ game a little bulldog in the making.
Stay well and take care.

https://www.nrl.com/news/2020/03/13/sharks-player-with-flu-like-symptoms-tested-for-covid-19/

A Cronulla Sharks player has been tested for COVID-19 after he and a team-mate displayed ‘flu-like symptoms on Friday.

Sharks officials said that the two players were isolated from training and the main player group ahead of Saturday night’s match against South Sydney at ANZ Stadium.

The club said one player had been tested for COVID-19 as a precaution but neither has travelled to or been in contact with anyone who has travelled to COVID-19 affected areas.

Cronulla doctor Paul Annett is monitoring the situation but the pair are considered to be low risk and there is no suggestion they have contracted the virus.

The Sharks advised the NRL of the development and have followed recommended guidelines.

“We're in contact with Cronulla,” NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said.

“If players have flu-like symptoms we want them tested. The priority is around those athletes and ensuring they're protected.”

The Sharks did not want to name the two players isolated from their team-mates.

Could be anyone from any grade. It will be interesting thought to see who is named to play for them on Saturday. After seeing how long it took for that reporter to get his results... 75 hours instead of the advised 48 we may not know until well after game day. If suspected do others have to be quarantined just in case?

Human coronaviruses are spread from someone infected with COVID-19 virus to other close contacts with that person through contaminated droplets spread by coughing or sneezing, or by contact with contaminated hands, surfaces or objects.

The time between when a person is exposed to the virus and when symptoms first appear is typically 5 to 6 days, although may range from 2 to 14 days. For this reason, people who might have been in contact with a confirmed case are being asked to self-isolate for 14 days.

Most COVID-19 cases appear to be spread from people who have symptoms. A small number of people may have been infectious before their symptoms developed.

How long does the COVID-19 infection last?
The infection period for the virus will vary from person to person. Mild symptoms in an otherwise healthy individual may resolve over just a few days. Similar to influenza, for an individual with other ongoing health issues, such as a respiratory condition, recovery may take weeks and in severe cases could be potentially fatal.

I only read that particular article so was unaware. Anyway he tested negative.

He must have had contact with someone who returned from a country on the list or with someone who did test positive because that is the only way you will be tested although the article says he didn't. They must have been able to queue jump to get tested...Think his surname is Italian or Maltese?
