This is the biggest crock of shit, all the successful clubs bring in short term fixes whether it be to plug a hole or add experience to guide and mentor the team

I back Baz but honestly think he started this line when the dogs were being hammered about Benji

We can’t have a full team of 20 year olds we need some experience and if they are good players even better

We not only have a shit team we have no specialists in our spine and no old heads

I don't think no band aid solutions meant not going after experienced or veteran players.

I guess it all depends on what you personally see as a band aid solution.

Benji at 36 years old defiantly was a band aid solution for this season he is squeezing that very last bit of juice from the orange now. There's no way he would be up for a full season in a team like ours.

On the other hand I don't see Shaun Johnson as a band aid solution. He's 30 with 3/4 years of good football left in him that can bring some much needed experience in the halves.

Would be lucky to have another 3-4 months of good footy left in him let alone 3-4 years.

He’s been very very ordinary for Cronulla and is 31 in a few months and coming off a serious Achilles injury. Pass.

I fear SJ will be another Foran signing... out for extended periods of time which as we know is very disrupting.

And the fact that Johnson's & Johnson's make Band Aids, should be a telling sign lol
They also make COVID vaccines

All we need is a little patience .
It’s gonna be hard waiting but what other choice do we have,
Couple of key spine acquisitions would do wonders we need a hooker and it should of happened already.

If we be totally realistic, this rebuild to Top 4; probably Top 8 consistent standard even, will take 3 years minimum when you factor in sc and every other club competing for any, and all, players who become available who can make a real difference (and thats the ones whom their existing clubs let go...most of those quality players will be kept by their existing club bc they are so hard to replace).

We better get some resolve that this is a long haul, gradual incline trip.

Well said....this will be a gradual rebuild and us supporters need to be realistic (and yes I know we have already been waiting for years:grinning:

I would love to be able to sign Brandon Smith, Josh Hodgson, Payne Haas, TPJ , Taumololo or any of these other rumoured big name signings, and if we do, fantastic, but realistically we would have to be very very very lucky to be able to get any of them while they are all still under contract

In the mean time we still need to be clearing out and rejuvenating our squad and get rid of the losing, "close enough is good enough" culture that we seemed to have slipped into

If we can't get Smith or Hodgson, I think an experienced hooker like Mitch Rein is an upgrade (not a superstar, but an upgrade) on JMK and Katoa.

If Flanagan isn't seen as our future 7 going forward, then let's go after Sezer or an Adam Clune to partner Burton. We don't re-sign Lewis and maybe shop Flanno around

If we are looking for more attack and potency from fullback let's target Dufty. If we think we have too much salary cap invested in the backs already then we don't re-sign Meaney or Chrichton and try to shop DWZ and/or Allen. We sign Dufty and look for the biggest and fastest Pacific Islander winger playing in the CC or the Qld cup and get them on the lowest wage but with the promise of an opportunity in the top 30

None of these players are the superstars that we all want but they definately make us a much better side and add in Burton, JAC and Naden and I'm sure we would have definitely won a few more games this year

If the superstars aren't available in the positions we need, then they simply aren't available. We need to go to plan B or plan C , as long as it strengthens our team and helps rejuvenate our roster and get rid of our losing culture

Then we can target any available OFF contract superstar the following year in the positions that we need the most

But like you said Wendog, it will be a gradual incline trip

Totally agree. We need some "experience" in the halves. It's good to have a team full of young guys who can play hard, become buddies and learn together over several years but you need some experience "on the field" too. I remember many occasions when we and other clubs bought in experienced guys to help teach the younger players and it resulted in winning comps within a few years on most occasions and or at least got them close.

I remember when we signed Bob McCarthy and Gary Stevens from Souths. When we signed Bruce McGuire from the Tigers. When we signed Ricky Stuart, Bradley Clyde, Brett Kimmorley, When Penrith signed Chris Mortimer and Peter Kelly, when the Roosters signed SBW.

I've read about Kevin Ryan who we signed from the Dragons which helped stop their run of 11 comp wins in a row and we made the Grand Final in 1967 (lost by 2 points)

Afraid that's what it looks like. A few forwards, a 9 plus the new 3 won't be enough to make us finals bound next year.

The quality we need are not available and we still have too many average 2nd rowers/halves even after this upcoming cull. Majority of them need to go as well.

It's going to be a slow build to upcycle the roster and change the loser mindset.

Isn't that where the Broncos went wrong? Ditching all their experience.

and they brought in a coach that had a complete 180 in philosophy (from a different coaching school/tree). It made the players look like they were deer's in headlights. It was too hard for them. A lot of clubs struggle after Bennett leaves.

They also changed the rules for 1967. There was an unlimited tackle rule before. It should also be noted that the Dragons cheated those premierships. They listed players' addresses as living at the house of their clubs secretary whereas they lived outside the Dragons area.
