I think he's gotten a bit stronger and tougher over the years but I agree, he's still not impactful enough and you need your fullback to be a game-breaker more than ever.. Meaney doesn't have that in his game. He's a solid player who always gives full effort and is best suited as a cheap backup winger or fullback.
I’d retain him for depth. No superstar but solid.
Logic says that 15 off contract won’t all be replaced - some will be retained for a year or two whilst some balance is restored to the roster as there should never be this many off contract at once anyway.

Yep I don’t understand the Meaney knockers on here.
115m per game. I’ve been impressed by his dummy half running this year, very handy yards.
5 line breaks (2nd highest for the club)
4 Try’s (2nd highest for the club)
90% tackling efficiency (1st out of our outside backs by a considerable margin)

Above all though he is absolutely safe as a bank with his hands. Just 3 errors for the season. In comparison - Cotric has made 12, Flanagan 13, Averillo 10, Allen and DWZ 7 a piece.

Meaney is as honest and dependable as they come. Will only get better as we bring in better players inside of him to distribute better ball
I agree with this. He's also a pretty handy goalkicker too. Way better than Averillo.

Ive always liked Meaney and feel its a shame he wasnt playing for a winning club with winning staff to develop him.
Swapped from FB to wing and back again often when he clearly isnt a winger.
Hes often had ok games when the rest of the team has been garbage.
I was hoping he would see development under Baz, yet again positional changes.
Early days at FB for us he'd always get monstered, not so much any more.
Fairly safe as far as erors go and refreshing seeing him take that take without fear on the weekend not long after rib injuries.
Still, I cant remember him ever breaking a tackle or looking dangerous with the ball. He may be fast but he just doesnt have that aggression to go that extra mile that I believe he has.
I dont believe he is our fulltime FB moving forward at this stage and there really isnt any other position he is suited too.
Id like to see him retained to cover injuries etc. I feel he deserves that after the shit hes had to play and put up with in previous years when others get picked constantly for being plodder and i feel theres potential for improvement.

Worth retaining i agree, not a long term FB option we need to launch on Paps next year.Though so far he hasn't proven a success i reckon Allan might get another crack at it more likely when we're a better functioning unit.

He might be able to show more from FB if he was given more than 3-4 games a year there. He hasn't kicked stones (ala Dal) at all, despite getting moved from pillar to post. He may not be a rockstar attacker, but he ain't Robinson Crusoe there in this side.

Dal's going good at the moment, but I'm very wary after last year's insipid performances. Not sure about Allen, he certainly didn't perform any miracles when playing, but he's not our worst backliner.

Good player, if he improves the basics he could have a long career in first grade. Continue to improve his dummy half running and getting a little stronger and he would be a pretty handy player. You cant have 13 stars, you need players who are good at playing their role. Can cover 1-5 pretty comfortably so I'd keep him for another year at least.

definitely worthy of another contract as a back up Fullback/Winger/Centre....Dont think he would be happy with that though. I reckon he could be heading to the Tigers as they were in the hunt for him before we signed him.

Meaney needs to go asap, another one of the duds we must not re-sign. Don't make the same mistake as we did with the idiott extension.

I feel sorry for Nick as he has been solid but not spectacular at fullback. But he is not a centre and lacks size and strength for the wing. He is bloody quick once wound up, but lacks explosive acceleration..

Could be a handy depth player or needs to reinvent himself and put on some size.

I would have thought his support play would have been better as a fb then what he's shown

He is a backup nothing more, put him on a deal like the rorters have with Ikuvalu and he covers for injuries.

If he can bulk up and add power and mongrel then he has a chance to last. I saw him on the weekend and he just kept getting dominated . Can’t do the hard yards and worried about getting scratched .
