Anyone see this fool on the news? He was on 10 and 9 mumbling that players should go on strike to get more money, and something about AFL and Union taking over. He is just a joke of a person. Everything is all about money with him. Its not about doing something you like, just money. I can't stand the ****.

This is the only bit of an article I could find so far.

Meanwhile, Mundine has encouraged NRL players to go on strike in search of a better pay deal.

The boxer says he is not surprised Israel Folau has quit the code to take up a lucrative offer to play AFL.

Mundine says NRL players deserve a much bigger slice of the game's revenue.

"There is no loyalty in the game," he said.

"The loyalty is in their back-pocket, whether it be the club or the league, they don't give a damn about the players."

I dont think they can afford to be paid more currently though, but it is up to the NRL to secure better tv deals so they can earn more. If the players take more of the pie, it just means less for junior and country footy. Country comps are already under funded as it is. If the players get greedy and **** all goes back into development, then there will be less players in the future if AFL and Union put more money into development. They need to stop being selfish and think about other parts of League apart from their pay packets.

A lot of clubs are struggling as it is, so it is up to the NRL to secure more funds for the future to ensure we are competitive against other codes.

The bloke pisses me off, and I think he should STFU and stop sticking his nose in the NRLs business...

But I think a strike might just help teach the NRL to HTFU and do something about this joke of a salary cap. He might have a point. I'm sick of our best players walking out on us every year.

Ever notice the competition is getting easier and easier to win every year?? It's because the talent pool is being thinned out. More "good" football players, and less superstars.

NRL players get paid overs as it is.

They train for a few hours a day, and play one game for an hour and a half on the weekend, do a bit for the community here and there, and they expect to get paid like celebrities? FMD. What you do doesn't even contribute to ANYTHING. You only provide entertainment. That's all you are, entertainment. Your profession is good for nothing else. You're not helping people, you're not providing a service - you're just running around a park for 90mins in short shorts with a few other blokes. But you want more money? Reputable teachers earn close to your MINIMUM wage, and how much more do they contribute to society?

And to the people who will say "Yeah, but their career only goes for 15yrs", what, they can't go out and study like a normal person? You say it as if they have to live off their savings for the rest of their lives. People change careers all the time, and they were earning a hell of a lot less than these half-wits for starters.

No, they get paid good money, and can set themselves up quite easily for life after football. If they wanted to remain in the sports industry, they could simply take a couple of years to study, and get into the workforce. Their names will open doors for them - it's the nature of the business. Hell, they might not even have to study.

I say the NRL should let these crying little whingers walk if they want to. The game should not bend over backwards to keep 1 or 2 players each season. F*ck em.

Well said Slippery!

If players go on strike, they may well earn less when a deal is struck. Fans won't have a bar of it and may switch codes if there is nothing else to watch. It is probably the worst thing they could possibly do. Their own greed could see them destroying the game. Major League Baseball players went on strike and ****ed the game for a good few years. They have no competition, but we have AFL and Union to watch and League may not recover if these players listen to these greedy money hungry ****s like Mundine and Nasser.

Who saw this idiot? He can barely string 3 words together without stuttering and sounding like a buffoon. If any other idiot of a football player wants to listen to him and leave hope they have fun, the man as he is called is a cat and know nothing not only about football but about anything in general.

Its funny he fights no named boxers they must really shake him up because he sounds and looks like a baboon

Here is a bit about the damage done after the baseball strike in 1994.

America's pastime still hasn't recovered from the strike 10 years ago. In the nine years before the strike, the World Series averaged a strong 22.3 rating... with each ratings point representing roughly one million households. And the league was turning a profit during that entire time as well, with roughly $22 million US in 1992 and $36 million in 1993. But the numbers have declined drastically since then.

Averaging a 15.3 rating in the nine years since the strike, the ratings for the World Series are down almost 33%. In terms of overall revenue, Major League Baseball claims it has lost money every year since the strike. Beginning with a loss of $375 million in 1994, baseball lost $138 million in 1998, and an astonishing $519 million in 2001.

Commissioner Bud Selig stated that 25 of the 30 teams lost money in 2001. And while the exact numbers have been questioned, no one is debating that Major League Baseball is still struggling financially. It was just in 2002 that the league looked into eliminating both the Twins and the Expos, a very telling statistic when professional sports are constantly adding expansion franchises.

A significant portion of the lost revenue since the strike has come from decreased attendance, which was down 15% shortly after the strike in 1996 and was still down 12% in 2002. With $1.5 billion in ticket sales in 2002, that 12% drop in attendance equaled $180 million in lost revenue. And with $3.1 billion in merchandising and concessions in 2002, every slight drop equals a loss of millions more. (Note: Stats were taken from the May 2, 2004 Philadelphia Inquirer -- based on info from Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal.)

The final factor that hit baseball hard was not playing the World Series in 1994. Broadcasting deals and ad revenue are highest during the playoffs. The handful of games lost at the start of the 1995 season was minor, but the estimated broadcasting rights for the 1994 World Series alone would have been another $180 million.
