Canterbury coach Kevin Moore is a hard man to please.

His Bulldogs are one of just three sides to emerge from the opening two rounds of the NRL season with a perfect record, but the third-year mentor still wants more from his squad.

"Just getting familiar with each other's style of play, the new blokes understanding the way we play," Moore said of his side's biggest area for improvement.

"The weekend showed that we're still not 100 per cent on the same page, we got a little disjointed and we got into a bit of a game of touch footy with Souths."

But two wins from as many games is nothing to sneeze at, particularly for a side featuring new players at the key positions of halfback, five-eighth and fullback.

Trent Hodkinson and Kris Keating have taken little time to rekindle a halves partnership which kicked off in the Parramatta juniors, while Ben Barba is making the most of an opportunity to bed down a permanent start in the No.1 jumper.

Asked if he was surprised with the early success his new-look side had managed, Moore said:

"I don't think so.

"We did a lot of work in the off-season and the people we brought to the club I was really confident in their ability and the fact they would settle in with the rest of the playing group.

"We've got really good leadership here with guys like Bobcat (skipper Andrew Ryan) and David Stagg and Michael Ennis - my expectation was that we would be good early but I still think we've got some improvement."

Stagg returns from a quadriceps injury to take his place at the back of the scrum, with Corey Payne dropping back to the bench and Chris Armit back to the NSW Cup.
