DOGGIES’ BIG DAY OUT
The Bulldogs’ NRL side may have just fallen short of the win in Round 2, but their reserve grade side certainly didn’t.
After trailing 12-nil, the Dogs laid on nine unanswered tries to stun the Raiders with a 48-12 win.
Zach Dockar-Clay — who we mentioned last week as an astute signing — scored a double, while halves duo Brandon Wakehamand Kyle Flanagan combined for a try as well.
Both Wakeham and Flanagan had a day to remember and should give Bulldogs NRL coach Trent Barrett something to think about.
Wakeham scored a try, set up two more, had two linebreaks and 94 running metres, while Flanagan set up two tries, had two linebreak assists and 58 running metres. He also put in a nice cross-field kick in the lead-up to a try.
Jake Averillo has been given first shot at partnering Matt Burton in first grade, but if Wakeham and Flanagan continue with the form they showed on the weekend there’s no reason why they shouldn’t get an opportunity if Averillo doesn’t nail done the position.
The word out of Bulldogs camp is that Wakeham was seriously impressive over the summer. Raymond Faitala-Mariner told foxsports.com.au last month that Wakeham’s “approach to training has been different” and that he’s “one to watch out for this season.”
Former Knight Jacob Kiraz has wasted no time in making an impact on his new club, with the returning local junior nothing up 173 running metres, two linebreaks, four tackle busts and setting up two tries.
Gun fullback Creedence Toia — who joined the club mid-2021 — put the finishing touch on a stunning try.
