The Hunter Ports Newcastle Knights today confirmed it has signed St George, NSW and Australian backrower Beau Scott to a 4-year contract, commencing from season 2013.

Knights CEO Matt Gidley said the appointment is in line with the Club's tight signing criteria of marquee players.

"Beau is one of those rare marquee players that ticks all the boxes in our recruitment and retention criteria and carries many of the values we demand in our Club identified by our Advisory Board under Chairman Paul Harragon,” Gidley said.

“Beau’s genuine leadership qualities will have a huge influence over the culture we are building not only at the NRL level but throughout the entire Club.

“The signing of a player of Beau’s quality, who fits the fabric of Newcastle and the Club, will excite many of our members and key stakeholders whilst also having a great impact on the young men entering our Club.

"Having players of Beau's character join our Club is also a clear indication the Knights new direction is being embraced by players, coaches and officials in the game.

“Whilst this is a fantastic signing for 2013, our focus remains firmly on our 2012 campaign.”

Scott’s signing has been done under a structure that still provides movement to ensure the re-signing of many of the current Knights’ players that come off contract at the end of season 2012.

Tinkler should of just purchased the Dragons then re-located them to Newcastle...

May the Dragons be clearing out their stocks for a play on B. Stewart/Stewart Bros?

Bennet leaves and decimates the Dragons - Dragons thank Bennett for his efforts with the club

Hasler leaves Manly - Hasler is the devil-reincarnate, threaten to sue the Bulldogs etc etc.

Firsrtly, Manly suck it up and realise that each staff member (or any future player) left on their own accord. No-one put a gun to their head. They were obviously disillusioned with the club and the Bulldogs found their opportunity to exploit their feelings. As I learnt somewhere, to be the best, you learn from the best. It is a business decision. Who can dispute that Hasler (and his staff group) is not the best, or one of the best?

Secondly, Hasler left the club in great shape despite the incompetence of the board. He pulled together a club from the rabble in 2004, and mould a team, and a club into a competitive force and snatching 2 premierships in the process. Thank him for it, you gronks!

Thirdly, get over it and move on with Toovey. He may or may not turn out to be a coach in the same league as Hasler, Bellamy or Bennet. Two games can hardly be compared to the "Big 3" who have been consistent over many years. Live in the now. Deal with the now. And let bygones be bygones - it is business. By all means, we don't mind some rivalvry - it is good for the fans and the league. But to try and devalue what Hasler did for the club, and to try and erase him from your history is very appalling and childish.

I think the Dragons should just fold. Send Soward to the Eels and let the Dogs bash him there.

Ive been one of the rare few that dont really rate Scott as a player, despite his representative caps.

Its a bit rich of some of these Dogs fans who criticise Bennett and the Knights for luring players from their old club. Ironic.

The Bennett-Tinkler combination know what theyre doing and Im sure cap management is not an issue. Bennett has inherited his roster, and much like Hasler will be doing, will clean out in favour of the personnel who he believes will help win the comp. Not many other clubs are in the cap position to be able to do this.

There are alot of players off contract towards the end of the season so this merry go round of player movement is only the beginning.
