I too bumped into a player in Belmore. It was Burton.
I had a 5 minute chat with him. He said, he loves the culture of the area.
He said he can see himself here until he retires.
He said he never knew how special the club and the fans were until he got here, now he never wants to leave.
He said he understands the heartache of losing Thurston all those years ago and what it meant for the club to have a half who can dominate for the long term and assured me he's going to give it all he's got to help win a premiership with the club.
He said he looks at how Andrew Ryan a fellow Dubbo boy held up the trophy for the club and wants to emulate that.
He said they will win their first five games and start really well as they have been working on something that's going to take the NRL by storm.
He said Gus has the greatest football brain he has ever come across.

Just bumped into Joe - turns out he's living near me.
Nice fella - had a good chat.

He looks fit and says it took him 18 months to get his shoulder right, which pretty much ruined his first 2 years.
Knows he needs a big year this year - and is keen to re-sign if the club wants that but knows it's no sure thing.
He's 26 and believes he's got good footy in him if he can stay fit.
Likely to rotate at 13 with Jacko.

Says pre-season has been tough and they flogged them in Tamworth last week.
Looking forward to the trials and the season starting.

Says the club is in great shape top to bottom - 'the sort of standards to when I was at Melbourne' - and now it's all about on field results.
Says JK has taken more of a back seat recently and all football matters are with Gus and Baz.
Says when Gus speaks everyone respects what they're hearing.
Says Gus backs the players 100% with anything provided they don't lie to him about anything which is a fair cop.

Says the squad is night and day compared to last year - very noticeable at training and fans should see a real difference in our attack this year.
Anything less than making the 8 will feel like they've missed the mark they've set.

So nothing earth shattering that we didn't largely know, but nice to hear it from one of the playing group that they're a happy bunch and raring to go.

As I said, nothing earth shattering or we didn’t largely know or couldn’t join reasonable dots on but was happy to share. Obviously anything seriously confidential he’s not going to share is he.

But yeah, I made it up.

Stimson is a far better player than Topine.
