Yh but sometimes you have to pay overs for good players to come especially in our position, with that mentality of not paying a bit of overs we might not get anyone
I agree that the club would need to pay overs to attract any real talent, but there’s a difference between paying 100k-200k overs, and then Foran levels of overs.

I’d definitely prefer the club to take its time in order to prevent another Foran situation again, rather than throwing the bank at someone, like the rumoured Latrell 10m 10 year deal, which is way over.

Agree we need to be as smart as possible with cap management we are almost starting fresh for 2021. If it’s a big name thou you might need to pay a little over to get them to the club as we are down the bottom of the ladder and coaching situation is a bit dicey.

Nah, no way should you pay overs for anyone! And yes, even in our position.
All depends on what your interpretation of "overs" means to you. $1.2 million for Cam Smith for example is not paying overs...but $1.2m for Foran who gives you 10 games a season is paying overs.

All it takes is for one player like DWZ to come out in the media and say "I love playing for this club" or "I don't want to leave this place" and you get other players automatically thinking differently about our club....hang on a sec DWZ has already come out and said that. The good deals are the ones where other clubs are paying part of our players salary, hence why he was signed by us for 18 months. Another one or two more of those kind of buys and automatically you become a very attractive club to other players. Players move to clubs for different reasons, it's not all about the highest bidder.

We should have the confidence to offer and dictate what we think a player is worth, and also have the development and confidence in our own youth comming through. Just like Melbourne. Melbourne don't pay overs for anyone. We need to develop that reputation. It's time to buy from wholesalers NOT retailers.

None of you pansies would be whingeing if the Dogs had a powerful Politis figure
Politis is 80. The guy is finished and so are the roosters when he retires. Do you think anybody is going to fork the bill like politis is when his gone, lol the roosters will be the first Sydney club moved they don't have juniours they dont have a leagues club. Once they start asking for handouts from the nrl the nrl's going to tap on there shoulder and say yeah boys you had a good run time to move.

The Chooks have no soul look at what they were like the 80s and 90s this golden period for them won’t last forever.

Agree Melbourne is the perfect example... we have quite a bit of work to do to get there... for now smart cap management, junior development and a little overs here and there until we get to that stage.

I agree, they're in big trouble when he eventually kicks the bucket. Let them bask in the sunshine for now. Fake club, with fake supporters.
You would think 3 premierships in 45 years is a bit low for a club with unlimited cap space.
I'd rather be a Bulldog supporter and stick to my 6 premierships in 40 years TBH

I don't think so.

He's an article from last year. His end game is to leave the roosters with a property portfolio of 500 mill. This includes a revamp of their leagues club of which they now own the land.

As much as we all despise the rorters, it's more likely of the NRL asking rorters for handouts than the other way around...

Having funds is one thing, but having a powerbroker behind the scenes pulling the strings is another thing. Once Politis goes, they will never be the same again.

Do you think Uncle Nick is going to leave the Roosters high and dry? lol

The NRL is going to move Easts along eventually? You're off your head

You obviously have no idea, but have a read through Nicks portfolio for the Roosters. He also hasnt done to bad since taking the chair in 1993.

For the past 25 years, Roosters chairman Nick Politis has sat in the same seat — row N, bay 62, seat 1 — at Allianz Stadium to watch his beloved team.

When the stadium is knocked down following next Friday’s Michael Buble concert, the SCG Trust will give Politis the seat as a souvenir.

It's a nice touch but a more pressing question is how much longer will Politis, 76, be sitting on the throne of the Roosters?
Will a grand final victory over the Storm on Sunday night prompt Politis to step back and hand over the chairmanship?

“No mate,” Politis said. “I haven’t thought about retirement”.

Then he let out his signature giggle.

“Can we just wait and see if we win first? One step at a time. But I won’t be retiring.”

Politis certainly understands, though, that he can’t run the club forever and is preparing for the future. His end-game is to deliver a property portfolio worth $500 million before he finishes.

He might have made his way in the world selling cars but much of his fortune can be attributed to property. He was last year ranked No.82 on The Australian Financial Review's Rich List with an estimated wealth of $773 million.

On his watch, the Roosters have snapped up Waverley Bowling Club, Berkeley Sports, Kingswood Sports Club and Woy Woy Leagues. They also plan to turn North Bondi Golf and Diggers Club into a multi-purpose sports centre.

The centrepiece is a redeveloped Easts Leagues in Bondi Junction. The club has snapped up most of the property on the L-shaped block on the corner of Spring Street and Bronte Road with a long-term plan to turn it into a lucrative high-rise development.

Politis knows his club can’t survive on poker machine revenue forever and wants to leave it in safe hands for the next custodians of the club.

“That should be any chairman's objective,” he said. “At the moment, our commercial property is valued at $120m and we have no debt. Next year, we will have $10m in cash in the bank. We’re in a very good position financially.”

Now to the small matter of finding the next chairman.

This column raised the question at the start of the year when rumours started floating around that Politis was about to stand down. It is no closer to being answered.

Former David Jones boss Mark McInnes was being prepared to take over but he’s since left the board. Former Nine boss David Gyngell is a possibility. So, too, is businessman Mark Bouris.

Powerful TV executive Mark Fennessy is an important board member who was fundamental in getting fullback James Tedesco to the club when Politis refused to deal with Tedesco’s manager, Isaac Moses, after a spectacular fallout.

But Fennessy, like many on the club’s high-powered board, doesn't have the time to juggle work life and Roosters’ life.

“I want to make sure whoever takes over has the time, enthusiasm and passion to make sure the club continues to be successful,” Politis said. “We have some good candidates on our board. We’ll sort something out.”

Uncle Nick usually does.

Funds attract powerful people. No-one is irreplaceable. With 500 Mill up their sleeve, they will replace him. In fact it will be more than likely someone of his choice.

It’s not about having the actual money it’s what you can do with it and Nick pours so much of his own money in and has connections. They won’t find another Nick. It’s similar to our situation post Bullfrog we are well off financially but people like that are impossible to replace.

You reckon Nick pisses money up the wall without a gain or tax break?

Ummm....don't know about that. We still haven't recovered from Bullfrog's departure. The Bulldogs are a very rich club, one of the richest clubs in the NRL, yet we're still behind the 8 ball.
It doesn't matter who you replace the individual with, the replacement will always be different with their own ideas and imprint. The roosters will never be the same once he goes.
