It is possible, how many tries did we bomb against Manly yesterday?. We could have put a lot more tries against them. We just need to focus and work together minus stupid errors and penalties.

i feel much better putting the ridiculous notion of the dogs qualifying in terms of probabilities. that way i can appreciate just how unlikely it is when it happens!

let's use the tipping preferences of my 61 co-tipsters on oztips.
dogs beat knights 7/10
broncos beat souths 9/10
dogs beat raiders 9/10

using elementary probability theory, we see that the dogs are about 57% chance of being on the neccessary points come crunch time. not bad.

what f*cks the team is we now need to factor in the points differential required. if the knights beat souths, we must make up 93. if souths win the figure is 61. effed if i know how to lay odds on that, but lets say it's 1 in 10 overall. that leads to a final chance of about 6%. piece of cake.

obviously you can tweak these odds and get a different scenario

I was thinking because the knights lost yesterday and we are only 2 points behind 8th spot, if we would to smash knights by i dont know 50, could this give us a huge chance to be in the 8 the following week ??

points for us against the knoughts is points they lose......

if we are 60 behind them before the game and beat them by 30....we are back
to square.... =P

Their game against Souths is their last home game...which they call
"old boys day"... Harragon used to say they never lose on old boys day =P...

We really need the Broncs to do a number on the Bunnies ......

No old boys day for the Knights this year as the game has been moved from always being on a Sunday to now being on Friday night for the first time

It's easy....we obviously win our last 2 matches versus Knights & Raiders. Bunnies lose to Broncos this weekend & Knights-Bunnies have a draw in the last round. We go through by a point!

Not likely to happen but think it would be less likely if we win by 50 in our next 2 matches.

How bout this. We SMASH Knights and Raiders and hope either Bunnies and Knights have a tight clash at the final round

Realistically i think our chances are extremely low of making the 8.

But lets speculate anyway. While it is mathematically possible, however unlikely, there is a glimmer of hope i guess.

In this scenario, Newcastle's f/a wont matter as they lose both matches and get stranded on 26 pts. But that also means Souths make 28 pts. So we need to beat Souths into the spot. Biggest problem is thier f/a. The best we can hope for, and it is hoping in the extreme is this:

(Current F/A: Knights +29, Souths -3, Us -64)

Broncos smash souths by say 20 at least (makes souths f/a -23)
Newcastle lose to us by 20 (makes our f/a -44)
Souths beat newcastle by a small margin, like 6 (makes souths f/a -17)
We beat raiders by 27 or more.

So every extra point than 6 that Souths beat newcastle by, we have to beat raiders by that much extra. Any amount less than 20 that Broncos beat Souths, is also extra we have to beat raiders by.

I guess we can hope that we at least do this:

Beat Newcastle by 20 (we are at home, but Newcastle will be playing for their season)
Beat raiders by a cricket score (not entirely impossible)

Not asking much are we lol.

If Souths beat Broncos or we lose to the Knights then its time to put away the calculators and think about 2012.

update, it definately isnt over now

8. Newcastle 26 (+29)
9. Souths 26 (-3)
10. Bulldogs 24 (-64)

i hear people talking about "i hope we beat newcastle so souths can get their spot"

well you bunch of idiots, why cant we take their spot

brisbane beat souths 30-6

bulldogs beat knights 24-16

souths beat newcastle 22-18

which means we need beat canberra by 34 points!!!!, we will know we need to beat canberra by 34 points

if we manage to beat newcastle by 20 points instead of 8 then we only require a 22 win over canberra

you guys gave up too soon
