What is the highest ever regular season points total (competition points)? I ask this because the Storm are gonna rack up 40+ easy and wanted to know if they will break the record...

I'm pretty sure the record was set by the Eels in 2001. I remember them getting quite a high total score from memory.

The Bulldogs in 2003 also got quite a high tally. I remember there was a period where they won a few games in a row by 40+.

I think the OP is talking about competition points, not points scored.

In 2006, Melbourne had 44 points.

Remember there are more rounds these days, so you can really compare records.

You can only compare years with 26 rounds & how many byes etc.

Hmmm so if Storm win their remaining games then they will be on 46. We've finished 2nd on P/D twice.

They are bound to drop a game or two prior to the finals. 10 straight so far (I think).

In 2009, we had a chance to wrap up the minor premiership with an expected win against Tigers. Instead we got flattened in Rd26. Saints, Dogs ended on 38pts.

People can blame the Soward incident, or the 2pts deducted for 14 man. The point is, Rd26, destiny was still in our hands. We should have won, instead we got embarrassed. Then we limped home against Newcastle in the 1st semi, then got creamed against Parra in the Prelim.

The back end of 09 was very disappointing.

i think it should judged by a percentage of games won in seasons since 1908

In 2002 the Bulldogs would have finished on 47pts if I remember correctly.

I agree, we were pretty poor in the back end of the 2009 season. But you'll notice it wasn't until Kimmorley's cheekbone injury against the Warriors that our results started to dip. And we weren't too bad against the Eels. We were in front at halftime, and it was always going to be tough beating a side that had gone into the game with amazing form.
