Having Magic Round at Suncorp is a stupid idea

I for one would like to know what is so "magical" about this round. Is it that the referees will get every call right? Now that really would be magical.

Bulldogs to win a bloody game would also be magical.

Not sold on the idea of the ‘magic’ round. Brisbane hardly needs the extra promotion of the game, some of the biggest crowds each round are based out of Brisbane. Watching the pre game tonight and JT said they are expecting a crowd of 130,000 across the magic round. The round average for 2019 is 129,000 so it hardly puts any extra money into the NRLs pocket. Given the NRL are paying extra for each team to attend ie flights and accommodation, it seems that it’s neither promoting the game in an area of need or building the bank account. Maybe a round at rural or suburban grounds could have help promote the game in those communities.

Works really well for ESL and pulls big crowds.
Meaningless comparison, having the games in Brisbane, distance from Sydney wise, is the same as the ESL playing their Magic Round in Berlin.

https://www.nrl.com/news/2019/05/10/magic-round-delivers-five-times-what-clubs-normally-bank/

The numbers are out, the Qld Government paid $2.1m and the game day revenue is project as being between $2m to $3m (that's a pretty big spread). Each club gets paid $270k, that's $4.3m in total. What happens if they get the $3m in game day revenue, the NRL pockets $700k, that's more than 2 clubs who actually play earn.

Without the Qld Government kicking the can the clubs would get $12.5k each (at $2m in attendance), that's less than the minimum used as an example (Gold Coast).

It doesn't take a genius to work out that the only reason that there is a Magic Round is so the NRL can gouge $2.1m out of the Qld Government. Otherwise it makes no sense for anyone else, especially us fans who lose a home game, or at least an away game within driving distance.

All teams agreed with it.

Some teams will be very happy with the $270,000 pay day.

Yeah but in the bulldogs case the NRL will fine the bulldogs $270,000 for farting on the field.

As if the Dogs would make $270,000 a game.

Also YOUR team agreed to the switch in venue.
Actually Good Friday game a few years ago, dogs made nearly 400kfor the game.... plus 120k in corporate plus about $1.50 per person on sales
That’s was a crowd of 50k.....
Even less than half of that is 250k......

Nothing is opened on Good Friday, so you would expect a good crowd.

It shouldn't be at any NRL team's home ground that's the point!

Neutral should be the case ( pretty sure that the English ones are not at traditional home grounds of any of the teams involved mostly soccer and rugby grounds) but the NRL wanted it at Suncorp simply because of the dollar aspect and the fact that there is not really much else to do in Brisbane therefore crowds would be higher......
