Still doesn't give an excuse for picking Ennis at HB but something needs to be done by the NRL during the SOO period! Us as fans pay good dollar to watch our team play and to field a 2nd tier HB isn't something I would pay top dollar to go and watch! Sorry

CANTERBURY coach Des Hasler says the NRL “geniuses” must find a solution to the State of Origin scheduling debate, saying: “Would the Dallas Cowboys play without their quarterback?”.
On a run a seven consecutive wins earlier this year, the Bulldogs have now dropped three straight - and conceded a whopping 86 points in the process - since the representative season started.

Missing halves Josh Reynolds and Trent Hodkinson, who are both entrenched in NSW Origin camp, the home side on Sunday struggled for cohesion against Parramatta - prompting Hasler to demand action from NRL boss Dave Smith.

While stressing the issue wasn’t an excuse for his side’s loss - “right now every club has to deal with it” - the coach said changes to the current system were necessary.
“It’s something that the NRL, the Commission or whoever is running the show needs to look at,’’ he said.
“We need State of Origin no doubt, we all know it’s a wonderful product.
“But you ask the Dallas Cowboys to go into a game without their quarterback because a State of Origin is on. What do you think the answer would be?
“Rugby league clubs are franchises. And it’s about franchises making money.

“So the (NRL) have got to do better; for all the clubs who are battling to make the financial side stack up.
“The Commission have got to do something about it for the financial side as well as all those other issues like player welfare. The geniuses in there have to put their heads together.”
In Saturday’s edition of The Daily Telegraph, Hasler outlined his own plan for how the Origin period should go - which included moving the showpiece event to Monday night and creating more flexibility in the draw.
“I put one idea forward and I think there is enough out there now to work something out,’’ he said.

Parramatta claimed bragging rights over traditional rivals Canterbury Bulldogs with a 22-12 win at ANZ Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Asked if the Origin series was hurting his club, the Canterbury coach continued: “You know the answer to that one.
“We’re not the first club to experience it but, yes, of course it’s tough. But still it’s no excuse.
“The clubs expect it and prepare for it as best you can. Other clubs go through the same thing year after year after year.
“Look at the Roosters last year who lost Mitchell Pearce and James Maloney. That’s both quarterbacks.”
