Think I watched Gus comment it was a combination of specialist training, some book work.
Whats involved?
Whos coaching and training?
Is it just additional tasks given to potential halves on top of regular training?
Anyone actually know?

Unfortunately it mostly shows how to get to certain points on the field with some mixed in different scenarios.
Very Robotic.

You can’t coach instinct and vision.

Hodkinson for example had a good career doing the fundamentals of the game very well.

Yep, you cant train instinct hence why I thought it was odd when I first heard the book work comment.
But I dont know. The comp has been lacking halves for years for some reason. I dont believe its a lack of kids playing league.
Ive heard Brents name thrown around for years but I dont know if hes had any involvement as I have nothing to do with the Club.
Years go by where juniors names are quoted as the next big thing to come through yet weve produced no gun NRL spine players.
So I was curious as to what this "HB Academy" is all about.

I've read somewhere that Gus is very involved and hands on with the academy

That's what makes me think the plan is for our next great halfback to come from within, as Gus has brought quite a few gun young halves into the juniors

Nasheed here,
I’d put my hand up if it was cash in hand to help the youngsters.
Halves tactics is a strength of mine and think I can do well and would be available.
The education I can give them both in their role and in life will be immeasurable.

I'd hope we give our youngsters access to a few different halves who've excelled. Not every half will respond to the same coaching style because they've got different playing styles. I think a part of the issue with inadequate halves supply in the game is that for years it appears most teams tended to bring in Andrew Johns. Not denying he had talent (personal opinion was he was good but over-rated to an extent), but his skillset mightn't suit every player.

I'd say confidently that a half with pace and footwork might benefit more from someone like Thurston or Johnston who would approach the line differently hoping to create gaps by making the defence commit to them. I've seen snippets of what John's coaches, he seems to teach telegraphing moves that you don't plan on making. Eg get the defence thinking the centre or winger is getting the ball but turn it in for a prop who has a more scattered defensive line to take on.

At the end of the day I'd hope it meant our staff could identify what works for different players and find ways to tailor training individually.

Repetition becomes muscle memory helps perform under pressure

Would most of us agree that Storm are the blueprint for “manufacturing” halves? Cronk has said on many occasions how much work and trust the staff at Storm put into him. Then you have Hughes who has developed into an elite HB.
