Broncos could be in serious danger of not retaining arguably the best front-rower in rugby league for his entire career, after it was reported that Payne Haas is not interested in Brisbane's latest offer.
The NSW State of Origin enforcer is contracted to the Broncos until the end of 2024, but the club wants to lock him away on a longer-term deal.
While The Courier Mail reported that Haas was set to agree to a six-year deal, which would link him with the Broncos until the end of 2027, Nine's Danny Weidler has received mail of a different kind.

Bad luck Mr. Haas. You will still have to stay until 2024 unless you become an asshole & start kicking stones. After that bby all means get a better contract.

That's right Payne all of these club's are starting to wake up to the fact that if you sign a forward on a long term million dollar deal it will fuck your cap for a decade

I guess good luck to them for getting him to sign long term so cheap, but the player is entitled to think pretty poorly of his employer, when you put in like he does, and then realise you are only getting roughly half of what a player like Milford's been getting paid.

Remember how we were all shocked he had (apparently) signed for $500k which was way unders at the time when it was obvious he was something special.

Does he have a manager? Pretty hopeless, or a Broncs fan :grinning:

My friends I think you're reading this the wrong way. He is at the Broncos until the end of 2024 - there's no issue with that. His issue is the extension.

Well... we learned from SBW that signing any player to a long-term deal isn't worth it.

I don't understand why the Broncos are working so hard on extending him anyway... let the 3 years run it's course. Damn they've got bad management.

I'm only commenting on his original deal :grinning: Broncs were always gonna be under the blowtorch only signing him on $500k (same as us with Burton if we don't pay market value quickish). The days of hand shakes and loyalty gone between all parties nowdays.

Yes. Now I'm curious about Burton. He wanted to join us this year to get game time, but was lucky that the Panthers had a lot of injuries so he got game time in the centre and also in the halves. Will he go back to them once his time with us is up? Time will tell.

The broncos trying to say they will give him a little upgrade now if he takes this new offer till 2027, poor broncos are running into cap issues already

And every commentator blowing them under the desk about how good they are
Absolutely, they grovel over how good their administration is, the standards Robinson sets and how Uncle Nik runs a tight ship and that’s what attracts players to accept so called “unders” and whilst some of that may be true for players looking for an opportunity or those looking to rekindle their career, these guys have a habit of poaching the best talent and keeping a successful roster together and their checkered history on how that is managed is overlooked every year…
