GOLD Coast were busted making a clandestine raid on NRL stars yesterday - and Ryan Tandy was the wild card in a bizarre chain of events at an exclusive Sydney hotel.
The Daily Telegraph sprung the Titans attempting to poach Queensland representative star Nate Myles away from the Sydney Roosters and former Souths centre Beau Champion from Melbourne.

Myles and his manager Gavin Orr disappeared into the underground carpark of Sydney's Sheraton on the Park on their way to a meeting with Titans chief executive Michael Searle.

Myles and Orr were filthy at being photographed by The Daily Telegraph.

An hour earlier, Champion's manager Sam Ayoub was at the exclusive Elizabeth St hotel to hold talks with Searle.

Strangely though, Ayoub turned up at the hotel with Ryan Tandy, the former Canterbury prop at the centre of an ugly betting scandal.

Searle claimed he was unaware the notorious league star was in the hotel but our source watched the Gold Coast boss sit down in the hotel foyer with Tandy and Ayoub.

Searle later admitted an interest in Myles, who is off contract after next season, and Champion, who is on a one-year deal with Melbourne. But he denied his club would sign Tandy.

Searle refused to talk about Tandy but he did discuss Myles.

"Nate is a Queenslander," Searle said. "We just asked about how he was mapping out his future over the ensuing months and to ask him what he was thinking after coming off contract at the end of 2012.

"When marquee players come off contract, you have an obligation to meet with them. There was no offer, we just wanted to see what he was thinking.

"We have had negotiations with Nate each time he has come off contract. He has previously decided to stay in Sydney. We will see what pans out."

Should Champion head to the Gold Coast, he would form a lethal centre combination with new Titans centre Jamal Idris. Pressed on Champion, Searle said: "We talked to him about the possibility of joining us."

I used to like the Titans too.

I hope they crash and burn now, negotiating with a guy with criminal charges over his head. FFS

So when is Tandy finally cleared / charged so he can make decisions on his career?

To be fair, he would be pretty cheap (sucks to be us if he is picked up as a bargain).

Don't the titans always brag about how they always chase good moral people that "fit with our image" etc.????

So now their team starts to fail they reach out to an alleged match fixer and public ****ter.

If it's proven Tandy placed a bet on an NRL game (which is the question our club asked him and he refused to answer for legal reasons leading us to sack him) I can't see the NRL registering a contract with him considering it's a breach of a big fat clause.

And even if it's not proven and he does end up playing for them? Big risk for them. A guy accused (with good reason) of giving away a penalty on purpose. Wouldn't want him on my team. Wouldn't want the morale issues amongst the players it'd bring either.

Titan's need to focus on consistency in their halves and also pick up a good hooker. Prince will retire in a couple years, Bird is not a 5/8 (Capewell is pretty poor) and Friend leaving their club will have massive ramifications on the club, already shown through their dismal form for the first 5 rounds of the comp. I'm pretty happy to see them splurge on the likes of Idris ($500k) and possible Myles who would be demanding anything above $350-$400k.

They'll see how badly this accounting decision will affect them when their 5/8 pushed up from reggies struggles to give quality ball to their marquee $500k centre.

It just seems to me that we are the only club in the NRL playing by the rules...

Exactly, they are going to end up as another Rabbitohs.

Talent all over the park barring the key positions. I don't even rate their fullback Zillman.

cashed up titans, somethings not right there
My bet would be that Bailey is off to England next year (hence their sounding out of Myles/Tandy) and/or Preston hanging up the boots. Lots of cash would be freed up from one or both of these two.

Nate Myles is a very good player. He has been killing it for the past two years and would be a very good signing for them. Tandy on the other hand???? Please! If he just tagged along with Sam Ayoub as they seem to be making out, then Ayoub is a goose for doing that and bringing bad publicity for the Titans for even associating with a guy that looks to be going to jail for a pathetic low act very soon.

F...k me, Tandy and Myles will make great role models for the young Titans players.
Searle's obviously still spending too much time on the piss in the Casino.
3.23pm Friday arvo - I bet he's there !!!
