GoFundMe Farce

It's one of a large number of things that can have good and noble uses. But it's just as easy to use it for selfish and dishonest reasons. And the kicker is that it can be hard to tell the difference.

So I don't even look at go fund me pages ever. For what it's worth I'm wary of all charities after the non distribution of the millions donated to a certain charity for bushfire relief which they pocketed at the time. But it was a huge scandal at the time.

Are you talking about the massive amount Celeste Barber (is that her name?) raised? If so I was wondering how they’d distribute it fairly. Over $50m iirc.

And even if it’s for a funeral, 12-14k will get a nice service. They usually ask for much more though.

These idiots having accidents and being seriously injured or dying overseas because of the simple act of not wearing a helmet when riding a motorcycle, are the ones that really get me. Because sure, the family and friends want their loved one back home for a memorial, but that costs a fortune and of course travel insurance doesn’t cover it. No insurance covers your own stupidity.
Peronal responsibility two words a lot of people choose to ignore, it easier for them, it is now a career for some.

Anyone got the link for that poor young chap who tragically passed away in the Cook Islands?

It was actually the red cross. There was a bit of an uproar a few months after the bushfires that they had $51 million of donations sitting undistributed. Supposedly 98% of it has now been distributed. But it makes me wonder how accountable they are.

Another idiot with head injuries after falling off a scooter in Bali. They’ve raised 50k of the 100k they’re asking for. Yeah don’t worry about doing the most basic form of protection (wearing a helmet). The people will pay when you’re in a hospital bed in a coma.

Thing that annoyed me, was the wife saying that no-one wanted to insure them and they couldn't get insurance, which is false. If you pay for it extra, have a bike licence, wear a helmet and don't drink and drive you can get coverage by nearly every vendor. Why do they think because you are overseas the rules should be any different? Would they drive a motorbike in Australia if they weren't licenced and not wear a helmet to boot?

It is the old 'won't happen to me' until it does happen to me. I'm not singling out this one instance, nearly every one of them that have happened is due to them having the same mindset.

I made fake photos of me sick with cancer and a sad story and raised 6k once
Used it for a weekend at star city wit homies

It’s not all bad……. Assassins family started one and I’m glad they did cause I know I helped out a genuine person who actually needed it and I’ll do it again.
It was actually Blue&White on here that organised it. I felt bad about it but it did help my family out especially with 2 kids under 4 at the time.

Still appreciate it and will never forget it.

I reckon some are scams?
Especially when you browse a Brazilian girls social media and she has a different gofundme link every month, of a different friend, who needs money for skin cancer treatment!

Mate, it seems like all the idiots that ride around on shitty bikes, on shitty roads, in countries where road rules are nothing but a guideline, think that somehow because they’re in a tropical paradise that they’re magically protected. Or maybe because the locals do it, it’s A-Ok? Like you say, travel insurance should cover you if you follow the rules and wear a damned helmet.

As a motorcycle rider I will admit to occasionally wearing inappropriate clothing, but never fail to wear a helmet. Coming off at any reasonable speed and smashing your head isn’t going to end well. It doesn’t take a genius to work that out. I even see it with passengers.

I watch this dude on YouTube that travels to exotic locations and was watching a vid of him in Morocco recently and he was freaking out, because the dude giving him a lift was riding like a maniac. He was also filming, hence one hand not holding on f9r dear life. I don’t remember if he had a helmet (doubt it) so if he fell off the back and cracked his skull, sayonara sonny.

Visiting places like south east Asia was shocking. I pretty much knew what to expect, but actually seeing how they dress when riding was scary. Thongs for instance. Ah yeah, enjoy grinding ya toes down to stumps if you get that foot stuck and/or crash. Sometimes there’ll be 3 or more people hanging on including babies or toddlers. Crazy fuckers, but I digress…

Remember when that Kardashian/Jenner girl made a GFM page so she could push herself up to be the world's youngest billionaire? And people promptly obliged her. Good work if you can get it...
