So does anyone here have any good hustlin' stories?
While I like the hustle, my brother-in-law is the master of it.
Here's an example from a couple of years ago...
We were wanting to buy new chairs for home, but just chairs for outside. Cafe-style chairs if you like. Anyway we were at a new cafe and liked the chairs they had there and asked for their supplier details. They gave it to us, but advised us that they only sell to businesses and not privately, and based on Melbourne so will also charge shipping.
Anyway we rang them up and advised them of the cafe we had seen them, and they told us that these are the end of the line range and they only had 14 left, and that's it, no more will be made. Now these chairs were great, European designed and built, comfortable and ergonomic. Perfect for outdoors. They were $189. My brother-in-law (B-I-L) rang them up and began the hustle.
They were a little bit naive and didn't really know what to do, but they had these items and wanted to get rid of them, so agree to sell them to him (on our behalf) for $35 each - 1/5 of their RRP. My B-I-L ran a cafe back then so he used that as the business that was ordering them.
Then they needed to ship them up to the warehouse in Sydney for us to collect and gave us a date. The idea was that someone we knew with a van or ute would go there and pick them up. The day before they rang us up and said that there was a 1 day delay in shopping. My B-I-L said to them that it's not fair as we've already hired a trailer to go to the warehouse and pick the chairs up on that day, and he could even show them the receipt as proof. He was bluffing but they bought it and agreed that they'll send them directly from the warehouse to his cafe then free of charge. He said his cafe is undergoing renovations and wanted them to go to his residential address instead (our address) - and they agreed.
So we got the chairs for 1/5 of their RRP, and had the transfer from the warehouse (change to our residential address) thrown in due to their stuff up.
Something that could've to us close to $3000 ended up cost us less than $500 lol.
