Canterbury has dumped star fullback Matt Dufty for Friday night’s big match against premiers Penrith.

Dufty was selected at fullback on Tuesday night but has been told he won’t play unless there is a late injury.

He will now be pushed back to either 18th or 19th man.

The Bulldogs coaching staff are yet to name a replacement although News Corp has been told Corey Allan will play fullback for the BlueBet Stadium game.

Canterbury management was hoping to keep their decision on Dufty in-house until an hour before kick-off.

Multiple sources have however confirmed the former Dragons fullback would be demoted.

The demise of Dufty — off contact after this season — comes just days after a bold performance against St George Illawarra where he logged three try assists but committed two errors. He polled one Dally M point.

Allan has just returned from injury and seems the logical replacement although winger Josh Addo-Carr could be moved to fullback.

A former Souths player, Allan scored a try in Canterbury’s 40-22 loss to St George Illawarra in the NSW Cup last Sunday at Belmore.

Allan was originally named on the reserve list for the Panthers match in jumper number 22.

There was a suggestion Dufty could leave mid-season for England but that speculation was firmly denied on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs hope Dufty can fight back from this setback and play a role in the NRL side over the back-end of this season.

Hopefully that cowardly cat has polluted our jersey for the last time.
Well that’s the next challenge.
I can’t help but feel this timing is 4 weeks too late. We face Penrith this week, Parra next week and Tigpies the week after with Laurie, Nofo and likely Adam doueihi back comepared to a few weeks ago. If we lose all 3, or even struggle to score points in these games he might be recalled, and that is worst case scenario.

This has seriously made my day. That imposter legit thought tackling was an optional thing to do. Disgraceful player and clearly Barrett watched absolutely no Dragons games last year. He probably saw his highlight video and signed him based on that

Well that's basically the last position he will be experimented in.
ill try to break it down
Asked about his expectations- secure as many wins as possible and front up each week and not forward planning.
His main issue was defence- his goal is getting the defence better, the edge and middles working together. Goal line defence has been disgraceful and we cant let 30 points in. He said teams will see this but they have addressed this this week.
He said we allow ill disciplined errors which obviously effects our fitness. We all start even but then we allow the other team to have 60% possession. They will be working on fitness and getting fitter over the coming weeks. Mainly worried about the Cheap points and they have addressed it again this week
Happy with attack but like defence they all need work together.

i am assuming this is why Dufty was sacked due to online defence and errors, they never asked that question. He seems to making everyone accountable unlike Barrett, so if we lose id expect a change or 2 again.

Looks like Kiraz centre /Allan wing
Jake fullback
Jake at fullback? Hes already been in the deep end in the halves and failed. Give him some shallower water for a while, it will do his confidence good. He wasnt ready for halves, and isnt ready for fb. Personally id like to see JAC get a run there. It fits my dream that he would be great at FB and be able to Captain from there. Wingers are shit Captains, they can only talk to half the team most of the match. And he strikes me as the best Captain replacement for Jackson

I think they will stick with Avo or Allen and will only resort to using that cat if all options are injured.

going off this pic Allen is fullback as he defending behind the ruck and about to follow the ball. Otherwise he would be outside of flannigan
