CRONULLA have snared promising Bulldogs outside back Jonathan Wright to replace retiring veteran Colin Best next year.

Snatching a spot on the wing for the Bulldogs this year, Wright has been signed by the Sharks following a series of impressive performances for the minor premiership-bound Bulldogs.

The Sharks have been on the hunt for outside backs and held talks with fellow Bulldog Bryson Goodwin and sacked South Sydney fullback James Roberts before snatching Wright.

Wright, who played with Parramatta before joining the Bulldogs, told his teammates that this season would be his last at the Bulldogs on Friday.

Cronulla are hoping to send Best out with a finals blast but must continue the form they showed last week - against Newcastle today - to keep their top-four hopes kicking.

The Sharks broke a losing streak with a 45-4 demolition of the Warriors in Auckland last Sunday. Flanagan said it was not so much a pressure-relieving victory as it was one which the Sharks simply had to win given their poor form leading into it.
"It had to happen, it was one of those games we had to win," he said. "We've got a few more of those in the next couple of weeks.

"To be able to go there under the pressure we were under, to bounce back from a couple of losses, was really important.

Forwards Bryce Gibbs (shoulder) and Wade Graham (sternum) could return from injury against the Knights. The coach is expecting to face a tough test in the middle with former Shark Kade Snowden leading the way. "We're not going to single Snowy out ... we'll show him due respect," Flanagan said.

Good luck to him. Lets just hope he keeps his mind on the task ahead until seasons end though.

Good luck to him.

Personally, I'm a bit bitter sweet about it. Always wanted him gone, but he has been showing some good form lately. Good thing we still have Lafai.

I don't like this bit of news one bit. Wright has shown he can handle both the wing and centre positions by turning in some class performances. He's not shy of the high ball either and could handle fullback as well if Barba was out. We're still short ofr outside backs with question marks over Turner and Lafai after their season ending injuries. If the Bulldogs have let him go they must have their eye on another class outside back to replace him

Disappointed TBH ..... Very strong season so far. Hope we have enough depth next year. It's quite obvious we have enough youngsters coming thru the forward ranks but does anyone know if we have bright prospects regarding our outside back?

It was him or Turner tbh...both been great for us this year (Turner was a standout before his season ending injury).

Deserves a decent contract given his form with us.

What a shame!

Good luck to him, and I hope his career kicks on, earning his true market value.

I reckon its a loss, his height out wide is an advantage and he has been solid all season. Im sure he will however play well for the rest of the year

I just hope this doesn't mean we're keeping Goodwin !!!
I'd much rather keep Wright over him
