Just looking at his career he made his debut for Souths in 2019 at the age of 23 which seems a little late and then he only played 2 games. So most of those highlights are from playing in the NSW cup or below. He then signed with the Sharks in 2020 and then only played 60 odd games in 4 years. So he has never secured a permanent top grade position.

He obviously had Reynolds and Walker in his way at Souths and then Johnson, Townsend and Hynes to contend with. His verseatility may have also meant he played utility or didn't make the first team.

But looking at his NSW cup appearences in 2020 for example when he was still known as a half it looks like he had pretty good stats as a half.

So maybe circumstances just havn't allowed Tracy to consolidate the halfback position. He has never been allowed to hold down half or any position for that matter as a regular first grader.

By the looks of it halfback is Tracy's best position. We know that our utility signings have expressed the desire to establish themselves in their favoured position in the top grade. I would say if Tracy ever gets the chance at half he will be hoping to keep that position so will give it his best. But so will Hutch and Sexton so its going to be a great competition for halfback which is a big difference to how we lacked much competition for that position in the past.
My Ciraldo man crush is blossoming, alright I might have half a woody...but sack him!!! Hes a rookie coach blah blaah blah and while we there sack Gus the incompetent fool :grinning:

Agree

He will be the 2024 "BUY OF THE YEAR"!!!
Not many league fans I know of rate Tracey at all.
I am really hoping they are underestimating him.
I am hopeful he is our 2024 good news story like Preston was last season.

I honestly believe that he & Taaffe could be this years solution to our Fullback & Halfback positions, Both being able to smash both positions.

Disclaimer of course - IN MY Honest Opinion ............ which we are all entitled to.

Ok so judging from the comments on the Sharks forum, Tracy isn't a half. However he's a strong runner of the football and has very good support play.

When you compare to Taffe, to make up for his lack of post contact meter, Taffe takes every meter on offer when returning the ball before he meets the defensive line

Taaffe lacks the size required. Agree he takes every meter on offer but as soon as he meets the defensive line he most often gets driven back. This will be a huge disadvantage anywhere near our own goal line, where he will get driven back to the in goal area

it’s not even just near the goal line though

Forget the fact Tracey is a better player in almost all facets (except maybe ball playing) but by far and away our biggest weakness this year will be our middle and go forward.

So do you choose the guy that’s going to get dominated every tackle on return or someone that bases his game on and is a proven tackle buster and metre eater

Sharks fans are dumb though. Legit Tracey better than Moylon or Trindall at 6 if they would have played him there.

I’d personally play either Tracey or Crichton at fullback

I have a sneaky suspicion Gus would have been the one behind our utility recruitment. He has a way of picking out those potential players and getting the right man for the job. He has this ability to see the overall big picture as well as be in the present with a finger on the pulse. Now I'm starting to develop a Gus crush lol.

He Looks like a genuine fullback to me. I didn't watch much of him though so not sure what his defense is like. The highlights usually only show the attack and only the best bits. I dare say CC and Gus would have sussed that out though.
Often good pivots make good fullbacks. Look at Hynes, Lockyer and Munster or Hughes for that matter. But from the highlights it seems he mainly played half or 5/8. You can see he has a dmmy, can hold and can time passes to put players through gaps, has a good cut out pass and can also backup play around the centre of the field.

It did'nt show much of his defence like you said but I would expect by his strength he would be an ok defender. To be able to play fullback or centre you need pretty good defence. But I agree he would make a pretty good fullback as well.

In saying that do we have any specialist fullback. I think Taaffe is more a half than a fullback. Critta is more a centre, Perham is Perham, KIraz played pretty good at fullback in the world cup but he's not a specialist. Actually the only player listed as fullback on the Dogs site is Blake Wilson which seems strange that we only have one fullback. Maybe he is the one at the end of the day. He certain has speed and good positioning.

Papali'i a development player might enter the discussion for fullback by seasons end.

In terms of most experienced first grade fullback he has it over everyone at our club. I think Tracey would be the lowest risk as a fullback. Like others have said has great acceleration, is a very strong ball runner almost to his detriment injury wise. And has nice ball handing. He is incomparable to Averillo. Tracey is a meter eater running for 170+ meters a game at fullback.

Yes we have plenty of options or players interested in playing fullback but it will be risky. Kiraz is a solid winger, his kick returns are strong and he can fly up for catching bombs, critta is the best centre for NSW, Taaffe is the only other plug and play fullback, but lacks blinding acceleration, and isn’t a huge meter eater, we wouldn’t be starting out sets 20 out often if the opposition has a good kick chase. Kid is talented, never really got a permanent run in nrl, this season was probably his most successful. He had played halfback at a good level and had been a 14 long term to his detriment. But with hutch, salmon, turpin, Mann and to a lesser extent Curran it’s very hard to throw him the 14 jersey unless you are happy to have 2-3 similar players on the bench at the cost of having middles.

We're still getting pumped on the edges, practically zero difference will be made until our middle is sorted.
Yeah I’m concerned all our opponents conversion attempts this year will be right in front as our middle is looking by far weakest compared to L&R edges..

Tracey is a great “better than average” 1st grader, balancing performance vs cost. Assuming he avoids injury, he will be a great addition to the team
