After 4 Rounds it's time to evaluate the team, so that we can more clearly see which signings have been a success and which off-contract players should to be re-signed.
Backs
1. Meaney 5/10 - Gone - Has shown glimpses of having what it takes to be a first-grader, largely has failed to fire, and in a side unable to score he needed to step up for us playing at fullback against South Sydney, he broke his ribs in his most threatening run. Call me harsh but it's time to move on from trying to develop him unless he is willing to bide his time as a back-up.
2. Allan - 4/10 - Reserve Grade / Depth - Allan has to be the most dissapointing signing of the year, given the reigns at fullback he looked nothing but comfortable there for 3 rounds, Barrett finally bit the bullet with him, and he looked just as bad interchanging with Cotric at wing\centre in Rnd 4. When JAC and Cotric are our centres next year, I'm not sure where he actually fits. Reserve grade most likely.
3. Hopoate - 3/10 - Gone - Horrible in every way, he has overstayed his welcome and is a constant reminder of the sh*t stain Hasler era
4. Cotric - 4/10 - Wing - the rating of 5 is how he has played at centre for us, I think he is a 7 or 8 for us on the wing where he doesn't have to use his brain. Had 4 errors against South Sydney and put in two horrible kicks to bomb two tries, he needs to be told not to over-think the play, run hard and use his elite skills such as his tackle breaking ability to break the line and finish.
5. Katoa - 2/10 - Gone - Absolute trash. 4th string winger.
6. Lewis - N\A - Gone - has barely played first first grade so won't give him a rating, but we saw enough of him last year and with Flanagan and Burton locked in, his time is up.
7. Flanagan - 5/10 - Halfback - He has had one good game for us in Round 1, but he hasn't been consistent and in a side that has gone scoreless for 3 games he hasn't been able to step up as chief play maker. He is a system player and will look far better once we get more first graders around him.
8. Okunbor - N\A - Reserve grade - Hasn't played yet so no rating, but I thought he showed enough to be re-signed as a depth signing moving forward.
9. Chrichton - N\A - Gone - Time to move on unless he is willing to take 3rd string winger money
10. DWZ - 4/10 - NFI - Can we organise a swap deal for him? Not sure where he belongs outside of wing, and we have two starting wingers. Cotric can't be left at centre so DWZ is surplus. Needs to be shopped so we can make room for a first grade centre.
Needs:
Starting centres - Needs to be someone of high calibre such as Staggs or Gagai both of which are off-contract, we need two centres, so we'd have to likely look at a tier down such as Hiku, Naden or even Parker.
Fullback - The plan can't be for JAC to play fullback. If that is the plan we are royally f**ed. We need an out and out fullback not a part-timer. William Kennedy, Matt Dufty, Tex Hoy are all available.
