Canterbury have signed 21-year-old Warriors prop Zyon Maiu’u, effective immediately.

Doubt he walks into our pack. And not sure how his conditioning will be as a 106kg second rower. But good to get some youth to mould into something. If we get the titans kid next year too. Then we will have a core of middles under 22 which should mean atleast 10 years from them.

Kid will most likely play reserves. Can’t see how he gets a spot in nrl.

I'd assume the thing blocking him getting a shot early would be the defensive system. Although it's entirely possible that with Webster having had a couple of years at the Wahs that they're using similar defensive structures.

But he's built like a brick shithouse for someone of 106kg. He runs with intent. Hopefully he at least pushes the rest of the pack with his efforts. Whether he breaks into the NRL side at any time is reliant on his work ethic from here on.

I'd much rather we get hold of promising youngsters that might reach great heights than to pay through the teeth for guys who have been at great heights but are potentially going to slack off on their last big contract. It's good to see an effective immediately too.

Agree with signing (multiple) promising young talent over one overpriced desperate signing.

I wonder if this indicates some doubt in our current crop of young middles? Or is it more that they aren’t ready this year and this kid is closer to being ready!

Either way he looks like he possesses attributes we are lacking. So welcome to the pack young man. I hope the Warriors have been training you hard or you might be on for a bit of a shock on Tuesday.

His only game last year was against the Titans- 13 minutes on the field with 77 metres from seven runs, five tackles, no missed tackles and no errors.

That looks good to me.
Pretty bold statement based off 13 minutes of NRL! I want to see him play >=30 minutes in at least 4 NRL games before making a judgement. Certainly has the potential, let's see how he goes ..... get him out there during the trials.

It would be nice if he was able to be a Leniu type player off the bench for us. Provide that energy, hard running and big hits for 30min a game. Another squad improvement on the 2024 options.
