You dont need to go to prison to sign someone..... Its about establishing connections and relationships. Both these kids are 18 and 19. They arent signed up for life. Sometimes you just pay someone a visit and just keep a line of conversation opened. Doesnt put egg on your face (according to gould he never even offered a contact to the younger boys, more so a visit to see how the locked up brother was).
Gus knows what he is doing. The pathways established in New Zealand and Fiji is something dogs have never had. We have academies in Central NSW, Queensland ontop of our own area...... Gus doesnt need any stressing about, guy is the most successful NSW coach ever, he is one of the greatest Rugby leagues minds currently alive..... If you sack him who do you get? Let me tell you....... you will going back with the second best person.....
Believe the process, we are on the right path. It wont be a quick fix but you wont get success until you breed your own talent. Signing players to multi year multi million dollar deals wont get you success. It creates roster imbalance. But no fans will understand that it will take 5 more years of being 16th-17th to bounce back naturally. Everyone wants a snap of your finger solution..... But the hole we are in isnt an overnight fix.
