Burton is overrated.

The contrast with Hynes, who settled in flawlessly, is stark. Burto is struggling.
Yeah. Burton just seems very complacent at times. It's concerning because we can't just wait for 8 weeks in again for him to fire

That's not even close to all the tools
Jesus.

No you're right, it's not all the tools.

He has several of the physical tools that make his path to being a B+ or greater, unorthodox 5/8 easier.

Yes he has good physical attributes, upstairs though he's severely lacking. He's one of the most overrated players in the game.

Bullshit, show me one successful team that has a gun 5/8 with a shit 7. He has nothing and there will be a huge shift in opinions whe Burton is playing with even a competent 7 and hopefully a not shit 1..

Hopefully he misses out on origin... Got gifted too much too early this boy just by being in Panthers GF teams on their gun edge.

Big body, footwork, speed, boot.
He has these in theory, not in practice though. He’s a big body yet today was one of the worst defensive displays I’ve ever seen. Forgetting today he is an average to below average defender. I don’t think he has good footwork. He has speed but is too lazy to use it (literally gave up the chase on DCE even though he’s definitely faster) and he passed to Kikau instead of using his boot. Completely understand where you’re coming from, but that rationale is saved for a junior’s first season in top grade on $150k. It’s why me and a couple others were shocked he was getting upgraded before he’d proven anything. Gus basically rewarded him financially for being a panther

Burton showed what he could do once Barrett was out the door and Mick Potter took over. under Ciraldo they are back bad coaching game plans.

When our season was over and no pressure to perform, big difference compared to rising to the occasion when required.

He might get a centre spot depending on injuries but if he doesn't improve he's not taking Luai's jersey

Hynes is 27 this year and has gone to a well settled club. It's no comparison.
You may be right ...but...Burto is not making his presence felt. Is on big money. Is a SOO and Kangaroo. He should be putting out a better, even basic, performance than that effort today. He is sub-par for what is required of him atm and no where near the presence that Hynes provides for his team. Hynes was only a fill in utility with Storm and he has far out performed Burton in reliability and influence on his teams momentum and success....even allowing for Cronulla being a well settled club.

We have fallen into a culture of excuses. It's not good enough. But that's today's game. Fair enough. But things need to drasticly improve from this soft acceptance of second rate effort and execution.

It will be a long season to get where we want, and can be, but no more excuses. They are paid well and must be accountable and be comparable to players in their positions in opposing teams.

Surprising from you mate.. Burton needs work but he is not even close to being the reason why we got beat by 25+ today..
