I usually watch my p’s and q’s for that reason but my favourite boxer at the moment Tyson Fury goes by the alias “The Gypsy King” ... The term Gypsy has become complimentary in my view. Hopefully I don’t get a suspension for that comment :tearsofjoy:
Love the Gypsy King and he will smash Joshua when they finally get it on..

There's another way of looking at this graph.

The other teams have much more settled rosters and the good talent is tied up even further with long term contracts.

If we have any chance, buying time starts in 6 weeks for 2022 roster.

Next year could be just as hard, or even harder God forbid, to attract talent.

Hoping though ;)
This is an entirely valid way of looking at the graph. Fact is we are struggling to attract recruits. Hopefully we land a few more decent ones before the new season, but to be realistic I'm not hoping for anything more than a few average 1st grade standard players and a few youngster that may or may not develop into 1st grade players.

What would be awful is if we had 12 or 14 of the current squad contracted beyond 2021. The task now is for Barrett and everyone involved with the team from November this year to show some really clear reasons why players should stop and give the opportunity to join us a very serious look. The spots will be available to sign them.

Certainly we can't be going down Pay's path again, "if you are a young player you can get your shot with us". Followed by the "we're a young team, you can't expect too much from us".

No more excuses, our players can do a lot better than they have this year.

Who cares about 2022? What happened to the promise of 2021 ? Oh they did fuck all for
Years. Great. Let’s shift
The posts and forget those wonderful power points!
I guarantee the new target will be 2024 by the middle of next season.

It's a real worry with the way we are structured and the way sc and signing window operates.

We arw desperate for decent signings right now for 2021 yet must be full on in the market and ready this November for 2022.

Along with setting up whole new systems for training, staff, fitness, players for 2021 and 2022, I hope Barrett loves a challenge :grinning:

I tend to agree with some of the others on here, 2021 isn't going to be a great season. In fact I'll go out on a limb here and say that really what I hope for from 2021 is a clearly better season than 2020. That shouldn't be hard given how awful this year was, but it is realistic.

What I really want to see in 2021 is clear signs that our juniors are progressing. Hopefully they'll get a decent season next year, and a real indication that there will be good years ahead is that our nursery is getting stronger.

I’ll keep my mouth shut for now till finals is over. But this board said we have spoken to a few players and are waiting to see who coach is. Now we signed a coach and yet to announce any new signings since. Oh besides the manly player who I don’t rate. But let’s just wait and see how it pans out. If we don’t get a few decent signatures then expect the same result next year

Waiting makes sense for 2 reasons. If I understand correctly the top 28 players need to be registered by like March with the final 2 by end of June ( at least that was last year). Since the nrl pay cycle runs from November 1 - October 31 if we wait until Jan or feb to sign players other clubs are letting go it means we have saved a few months of wages which can be used to offer more money to players. And secondly if players do become available like just for argument sake Harry grant or Brandon smith or addo Carr we have cap space and free spots to sign them.
There is no reason to rush out and sign players. The teams with lots of players locked in tend to be those at the top of the ladder with the better players. We know how that worked for us in the past. Look at manly signed Tom t to a massive contract and now he looks like doing a Foran. Same with titans and ash Taylor, or the tigers with Reynolds, cowboys with Morgan.

Im of the same opinion at present. No use losing my shit until we know 100% who will be taking the field next year.
Even with our current players, I dont think thier all duds. Dont beleive theyve had specialist training the past couple of years. Not even fit.
I look at Papenhuyzen for example who has Slater. Parramatta halves have Joey. Lets kidnap Thurston, he has a soft spot for us.
My feeling with Pay was park footy training and throw them out there, their young and they just need games under their belt.
I could be completely wrong about that but after watching what we have become, doesnt seem unrealistic.
My point is Trent may get more from some of our current players. Add to that some quality signings and who knows.
Ill be filthy if we dont get quality signings for next year though. Imagine going into next year with our current halves, that would be inexcusable.
No justification ( covid, lack of available talent etc. ) after the amount of time the clubs had to play chess and have it sorted for 2021.

The issue with that is that our talented juniors don't actually have an experienced key player to learn off. Green is literally the only player that comes close, experienced, premiership winner...but really he hasn't performed well for years and has also just done an ACL. This I why I would've gone after Tamou, he is still performing and is a bloke a lot of our inexperienced forwards can look to and learn off.

Holland and montoya will be let go.. from what ive been told, Schoupp will be our cover next year for centre, and be the next in line to take Hoppa spot on the assumption that the Charlie Staines deal goes through and hoppa reverts back to centre.

Burton is our number 1 target for 2021, this wont unfold till pre-season though, panthers doing all they can to convince otherwise.

Whatever we might be tempted to say about this or that player who is still signed, fact is that we still have quite a few spots open next year (7 I think?), and more open spots than any other team for the year after.

The first priority is to recruit the best players available on the market. So that means none of our current players coming off contract this year and next should be re-signed until our external recruitment process is completed. Then we can look at the best of our current mob to retain at a discount because none of them have justified an increase in salary based on their performance this year. Its a very simple equation: The more players we retain = less money for quality recruits. I can't see any of our current players making the top 17 of the chooks, melbourne or parra and I doubt any club would be willing to pay them what they are earning here. The fact is we are in a salary cap mess because we consistently paid overs for dud players.

I assume Tolman and Sue will be gone as well?

What do you think they will do with Averillo ?

Sounds like our preferred backline would be :

1. Staines
2. Okonbur
3. Hopoate
4. Cotric
5. Smith/DWZ
6. Burton
7. Green

Wont win a comp but definite improvement on what we have.

This also fits post 2021 when Hoppa’s time will most likely be up...

If we sign Burton either for 2021 or 2022 Averillo should be our fullback. No need to sign Staines. If we can't sign Burton for either year then Averillo can be our 6 moving forward (and we can look at Staines).

This is my 1-7 assuming (I don't know why) we're going to sign Burton (at least for 2022). For the multiple position ones the first player is what I'd go with.

1. Jake Averillo
2. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak
3. +Nick Cotric
4. William Hopoate
5. Jayden Okunbor/Reimis Smith/Nick Meaney/Aaron Schoupp
6. +Blake Green
7. Brandon Wakeham/Lachlan Lewis/Bailey Biondi-Odo

Green and Wakeham if we can't sign Burton for 2021 and Burton replace Green in 2022 if we can sign him.
Green and Burton if we can sign Burton for 2021 and Wakeham can replace Green in 2022 (possibly).

Averillo has the most potential out of all the players in our team (that we've seen so far in the NRL). It'd be criminal to not play him.

Better off

With

Avo
Carr 100% drop dwz
Cotric
Staggs 100% drop hopa
Schoupp drop Reimis

Staines will stay at penrith
