CRONULLA are officially the most deceitful sporting brand in Australia.

In a devastating blow for the Sutherland club, League Central can reveal the ongoing ASADA drugs crisis has crippled the image of an organisation whose logo has been worn by such legends as Steve Rogers, Andrew Ettingshausen and Gavin Miller.

According to an 'Asset Study' released today by Gemba, the largest sports research company in Australia, a whopping 12% of all Aussie sports fans now consider the Shire club dishonest.

DOPING TIMELINE REVEALED

SACKED SHARK ON VERGE OF RETURN

Even Essendon, the AFL club also caught up in the current drugs crisis, fell well short of this mark.

While both Cronulla chairman Damian Keogh and CEO Bruno Cullen failed to return The Daily Telegraph’s calls last night, a Gemba spokesperson confirmed NRL chief David Smith was among a host of sporting chiefs who would receive the report.

"Our information is widely used by organisations like the NRL, Cricket Australia and FFA," he said. "We’re also used by the Federal Government and a number of large Australian companies who, when they’re considering sponsorship, want to know exactly what type of values they’re buying into."

Having been heavily criticised for their handling of the ongoing ASADA investigation, Cronulla topped the list of most deceitful NRL clubs – ahead of Canterbury (11%), Melbourne (6%) and Manly (4%). In the AFL, Essendon (9%) headed the list ahead of Collingwood (8%) and St Kilda (5%).

Across the other sports, which included A-League, Big Bash, NBL, even motor racing, no other organisation came close to the Sharks.

Even worse for the Shire club, they also ranked highest in the category “losing momentum”, placing ahead of strugglers Parramatta, St George Illawarra and Penrith.

There was, however, plenty of great news for rugby league with the resurgent South Sydney Rabbitohs polling in the top four of a variety of groups, including dedicated, inspirational, integrity and successful.

When it comes to clubs "on the up", the Rabbitohs finished first ahead of reigning premiers Melbourne, who also featured heavily in the positive groupings.

In other key results:

* Melbourne fullback Billy Slater was rated the most ‘marketable’ NRL star – heading a hot field that includes, in order, Johnathan Thurston, Greg Inglis, Cam Smith, Cooper Cronk and Benji Marshall.

* South Sydney fullback Greg Inglis is regarded as the most competitive Australian athlete, winning ahead of stars like tennis ace Sam Stosur and cyclist Cadel Evans.

* Newcastle fullback Darius Boyd is considered the most "fake" leaguie.

* Penrith are the most unappealing NRL club.

* Sonny Bill Williams is league’s best looker.

They still hate us...bring it on I say.

Perception is far from reality. Melbourne Storm should be well ahead of us if cheating the cap was the main reason.

That's a cop out Rod, the salary cap was 11 years ago. Who in their right mind needs to keep a grudge for that long especially considering we got bent over and at least Melbourne got to at least "WIN" their GF's.

Rorter are the most deceitful club . They were the instigators and have been doing it for years. They are so good at it they don't get caught. They are also the only club to win the spoon being over the cap.

The fact is this study comes from the general public whose opinions are always biased and never honest, so the results don't reflect people's true opinions. Better indicators are the sponsorships and crowd support that a club attracts, and the dogs are well on top here.

we didn't steal Hasler. You really think if their board hadn't soured the relationship and if he wanted to stay at manly because there were no problems we would have been able to sign him? ffs

it's a business.

btw everyone was cheating the cap, they just didn't have a pissweak, swine whistleblower at their Club.

well ok lets base it on the hasler situation, the way we were perceived to tamper with them forcing manly to release him

i know thats a popular move here but if it happened to us we would be having a meltdown

ive got a few more things that happened under greenberg but it would be rude to bring up

you really think you would have such a philosophical approach if someone signed him with 1 year to go on the contract at the dogs then he signed up people to go with him to the new club?

and to top it off they would mock the bulldogs the next time they meet with a t shirt lol

What a crock of sh!t. How on earth do a bunch of gronk supporters have any idea of the internal workings of the country's sporting orgs. LMAO at Dave Smith will be given a copy of the report....WTF is he going to do about it? Hire a frigging honesty and transparency auditor?

Maybe somebody should do a poll on which newspaper is most deceitful, or which generic sporting research company asks the stupidest poll questions.

"Our information is widely used by organisations like the NRL, Cricket Australia and FFA," he said. "We’re also used by the Federal Government and a number of large Australian companies who, when they’re considering sponsorship, want to know exactly what type of values they’re buying into."

Poor Cronulla.

The Bulldogs salary cap rort is that old that its past the statute of limitations. If anyone brings that up it is a very good indication that he/she is a dope and we've been clean skins since then.

As far as the ASADA drug investigation is concerned the Bulldogs Jekyll and Hyde on field performances would be proof positive that performance enhancing drugs are not on our players menu.

NSW has always been a corrupt society, you can't expect everyone to play by the rules when everyone else is pulling swifty's, footy is big business and clubs will push the boundries, even refereeing gets scruitinised because of possible NRL motives, we have all seen clubs penalised out of a game blatently.
