I didn't think Pay was the way forward as @DinkumDog will attest and I wanted him gone. But, facts are facts. Pay didn't win the spoon and Barrett has had a far say in the roster and also hired all his own people. If he gets the spoon he should own it.

Affirmative. I too was in the camp that said Pay had done his best with a poor squad. He had little real input into that squad (and no-one can count Britt and other cheap acquisitions when there was no money). Napa was Klemmer’s money. At one point Pay was being considered for an extension to coach with a clear cap. That changed when the losses piled up last year. Barrett has had far more opportunities than Pay had in terms of shaping his squad and staff. That doesn’t mean he’s had a clear run squad wise, 15 players off contract this year proves that. But assuming he does recruit more talent beyond Burto and Fox and the ship does not turn within the first half of next year, Baz could be in the same position as Pay.
