POLICE DNA tests have returned no evidence to support a sexual assault charge against Manly fullback Brett Stewart.

The Daily Telegraph understands results of all major DNA samples taken in the aftermath of last Friday's alleged incident were returned to police this afternoon, with Stewart cleared by the tests.

Police have charged the Manly fullback with sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl.

The alleged victim also underwent DNA testing and the Daily Telegraph understands that her results have also turned up no supporting evidence.

Both Stewart's manager George Mimis and barrister Geoff Bellew refused to comment.

You cant speculate on it....there are so many variables.


You can walk past someone and your DNA can end up on them. So you have to wonder where the DNA test was taken from.

Yes, They must've charged him based on eyewitness testimony. There is also a video taken of him arguing with the girls father that will be used in evidence during the trial.

Innocent until proven guilty.

doesn't necessarily mean he's not guilty but, depending on what the other evidence is, it might make a jury reluctant to convict.

The problem mate is he said he can not remember a thing, so evreything the girl and eye witnesses say will be taken as the truth.

In all honesty, No matter how good a player Brett Stewart is, he showed he has no brains. That is the dumbest thing you can say. Saying you were too drunk to remember means whatever the witnesses and the girls say is basically taken as the proof. Since Stwart " was too drunk to remember a thing " he wont really have much testamony.

best to let the court deal with the matter before it, listening to media speculation is not going to provide an accurate picture of what happened

News or someone said the tests were 'inconclusive'.

Basically that it meant the tests couldn't be used to strengthen the Police case.

However, obviously there is her testimony / witnesses to still take into account.
