Morris in race to make New Zealand game

NSW winger Brett Morris faces an uncertain wait to find out if his troublesome knee will recover from a brutal Origin Two loss in time for him to race over to New Zealand to join his Canterbury teammates for Friday night's crucial match against the Warriors.

Morris, along with fellow Canterbury NSW representatives Josh Jackson and David Klemmer, was booked into accommodation near Sydney airport following Wednesday night's Origin clash with a view to flying out early on Thursday to join teammates.

However Morris said his fate was in the hands of Bulldogs club doctor Joe Lombardo with the winger needing to get through post-game recovery and assessment to even make his flight.

"At this stage I've still got to go through a medical with the guys here [in the Blues set-up]," Morris said immediately after the Blues' 18-16 loss on Wednesday night.

"I've still got to do recovery. We'll wait and see how it pulls up after all that sort of stuff and we'll get a read on it then.

"At this stage it's sort of up to the docs here. The good thing is the Bulldogs club doctor is in camp. He knows my body quite well."

Morris conceded things "have to happen fairly quickly" for him to make his flight out of Sydney on Thursday.

Of the game itself, in which Morris was a standout in a beaten team with a number of tough plays in defence, quality carries and one wonderful finish for a first-half try, he said the team as a whole was disappointed with the way their scoreless second half panned out, going down after carrying a 16-6 lead to the break.

"I suppose when you look at the second half there's probably areas of our game where we didn't perform well," he said.

"Certain tackles, we probably missed opportunities or dropped balls and gave them a bit more footy down our end which was something we didn't really do in the first game.

"I thought our first half was outstanding, we played the way that we wanted to but I thought in the second half we sort of fell away from our game plan and made a few errors. They're a great Queensland side and with those guys back in their side they definitely know how to score points.

"Origin is about coming out of your own end, working hard. You've got to make them earn the chance to play football on your try line and I thought tonight especially in that second half we gave away penalties when they were coming out of their end.

"A couple of second tackle sets and things like that really change the momentum of the game. With those guys that they've got back, they definitely know how to score points and they did. They did enough tonight to win."

If we want to lose = rest him (because Holland (or Lee if below is untrue) leaks points galore).
If we want to have a chance = play him.

I'm hearing Brenko Lee did not fly over with the team and is in NSW Cup this week again.

Brenko wasn't named on Tuesday. Due to the new rules he couldn't play regardless so there's no reason for him to fly over there.

Lee was named. The NRL allowed us an extra reserve and he was named in jersey 23. Though in saying that des won't play him. He'll put holland on the wing. FMD they could at least chuck Phillips on the wing instead!

If Morris is unavailable, Lee on the wing is the best option in my opinion. If Lee can't play then Phillips...

Morris, Klemmer and especially Jackson should ALL be rested. They all played hard and well last night in a loosing team.

If Morris is out you have the option of A) Lee to centre and Stanley to the wing or B) Stanley at centre and Holland on the wing. Lee was diabolical in defence on the wing against the Roosters as he couldn't position himself against their kicks... I don't know which way to go here. I like Lee but he makes too many mistakes in D and too many handling errors. Holland on the other hand is too slow and small. I'd probably go with Lee and his potential. Maybe teaming him up with Stanley will help improve his defensive reads... Stanley is really good under the high ball as well.

Did you see the first roosters game at Allianz? Lee was horrible in defence on the wing. I'd much rather him at centre and Stanley on the wing.
