I don’t know that ‘Assassin at Bondi’ would’ve been a helpful headline….

Speculative but wondering if this bloke was an Incel - majority of victims women (maybe the male security guard got in his way) - he did advertise himself as an escort. Reports that he was living out of a car, estranged from family etc - obviously had issues - just wrong that innocent people were in the way when his angst boiled over. The real question is how can such a random and senseless act be stopped again?

Witnesses who were there suggest he was just looking for easy targets.. there's also quite a few women's fashion stores at Bondi Westfield so it's probably a coincidence... have to factor in the baby as well because only a genuine messed up **** would knife a baby.

Could be - hence I admitted speculative. Best to wait to see what the investigation uncovers. I just think the bigger concern is will we ever know what was the trigger and if so how do we stop it happening again?

The government needs to put pressure on shopping centres to increase security and police presence.
My partner as a cleaner at one major centre fears for her safety on the job. Too many aggressive fools lurk all day without any reason to be there.

I think it was more related to picking weaker targets than anything else. Any males who appeared to confront him he avoided.

I dont believe it has anything to do with weaker people....

From my experiences with people suffering from schizophrenia, they become fixated on a particular topic or delusion and run with it. Going against them doesnt change their thoughts at that time and you realistically need to let time calm them down.

Its sad that so many innocent people were caught in this rampage.

This event might finally lead the government and health agencies to stop pussy-footing around the mental health topic and draw a line in the sand where people suffering from it are removed from the community. Letting them live among us is not dealing with the issue.

They provide fire and terrorist or active incident training for tenants evacuation plans smoke alarms fucking lift and entry security @Hacky McAxe sprinklers fire doors and pressurised fire stairs in the event of a ADT trigger CCTV signage warning about slippery surfaces security that are instructed to not engage if someone has a weapon ewis system’s smoke spill systems emergency lift call outs HVAC maintenance Cooling tower colony counts I could rattle off 10000 more but if a mentally ill guy comes in with a knife and starts attacking people you can’t really stop that.

Have a mate who works for Scentre (Westfield parent) so I’ll ask him. Affordability shouldn’t be an issue - the amount they charge retailers per sq/m for rent made my eyes water - how anyone turns a buck is baffling.

I would be interested to know if you find out. it's concerning to us as my step daughter works at a retailer there as well after school. The shoppers don't pose a threat. Unfortunately at most centres there's a core of unemployed Karens that harass the vulnerable.

I wasn't implying that the mentally ill event that took place was foreseeable. That's impossible.
I just took a moment to discuss in general an opportunity that some security reforms are needed at shopping centres. There isn't a venue or event these days with that lack of security .
I can appreciate that you seem to know adequately on evacuation procedures etc but I just want to know who is responsible for policing?
This affects people close to me and we are forced to confront the issues out of necessity to earn a living.

Umm okay good question we’ll security in retail premises like Westfield need a square metre property security ratio so I’m not sure how many they need but the thing is the security is told to watch and act not to engage (often they are under trained). I would make sure your family is familiar with the fire exists and evacuation procedures. Request to go to the 6 monthly evacuation training and the most important thing is in the face of a fire or terrorist attack or lone attack get Out. Don’t worry about anyone else worry about that later.
