NRL 2021: Canterbury Bulldogs whack Bondi-five for boozy Covid breach, Dylan Napa | Daily Telegraph
Michael Carayannis
The Bulldogs have whacked the “Bondi-five” including prop Dylan Napa who failed to turn up to training after a boozy session which also breached the game’s Covid-19 protocols.
Napa did not attend training the next day while the other four Brandon Wakeham, Corey Waddell, Sione Katoa and Aaron Schoupp turned up to the recovery session but were all breached for breaking the club’s protocols.

In a line in the sand moment for the club, the Bulldogs have stepped up and breached the players on top of the minimal fines the players were dished up by the NRL.

Investigations revealed the players were drinking excessively and arrived home just hours before they were due to front up at training.

The players will be made to front up and explain their actions to the board next week where the monetary amount will be disclosed. They will be given an opportunity to explain themselves after being hit much heavier than the NRL’s punishments.

Napa was fined $5000 by the NRL with Wakeham ($1,750), Waddell ($1,500), Katoa ($1,250) and Schoupp ($250) all sanctioned.

Injuries and suspensions have forced the club’s hand in recalling some of the players to play against the Roosters on Saturday. Coach Trent Barrett was apprehensive about selecting the players but he has been left with little choice because of a mounting injury toll. It is understood only Wakeham has been overlooked.

The players left their teammates exposed last week, leaving the Sea Eagles to stroll to a record breaking 66-0 win.

Jeremy Marshall-King and Ava Seumanufagai were hit with suspensions because of their loss against Manly while Matt Doorey is injured.

The trio join Jayden Okunbor, Raymond Faitala-Mariner, Chris Smith, Adam Elliott, Nick Cotric, Brad Deitz and Christian Crichton on the sidelines.

The money won’t be used by the Bulldogs to pay the club’s $50,000 fine levelled against them by the NRL. Instead it will be used to support their community and charitable programs.
Didn't Barrett say during the presser after the game that they weren't going to play this week? I thought they were still in the 14 day period or is that being waived for some reason?

Also it would have been a great opportunity to sack Napa even if it is only 2 months from the end,

Sack all 5 now if we can. Waddell and Wakeman need to go. Katoa and Nappa already gone. Collateral damage is Schoup unfortunately but he’s not that great anyhow. Great chance to get Wakeman and Waddell off the books.
Our only problem is getting decent replacements. Bailey Biondi Oddi could replace Wakeman. Surely he’d be no worse.

If Napa is named it will show how weak Barrett is. It's not like he's a superstar that can't be replaced, we can easily find someone who can do what he does (which is not much anyway).

His panic signing by the board of the time is seriously unforgivable.

Yeah I’ll be disappointed if he’s named too. It’s a been a disaster on and off the field. If he isn’t sacked it says a lot about the weakness in the whole club that they accept that level of unprofessional conduct.

All well and good getting Wakeman off the books but we're still stuck with Wakeham then!

No mate the 14 day lockdown ended on Sunday (i.e. 2 weeks after the Parra game remembering there was Origin in between).

Baz didnt say anything about them not being picked. Just that they let the club down.

After last week he may have no other option but to pick some of them especially Schoup considering how horrendous our defence was last week. I do hope they sack Napa though to send a message

Well they have been ordered to appear before the board for breaching the code of conduct. Looks like some sackings may be on the way

Christ! Sack Napa now! He has trashed our brand irredeemably.
He's had a bigger laugh on us than Williams, Barba and that other traitorous c***, SBW
Sack him now before he does any further damage, ungrateful arsehole!
This has to be a lesson to us - Politis does NOT release players without good reason!

No he said they were not getting any injured players back next week (i.e. Okonbur, Elliott, Smith, etc).

Some of them will get picked. They havent been suspended by the club so they are available for selection
