“ | We don’t actually come up with the plan. The CSIRO, other competent people, come up with the plan. — Barnaby Joyce |
A farmer/scientist panelist said on The Drum last night that he should swap his Akubra for a hard hat...represents the mining industry now not farmers. Farmers do acknowledge climate change.Barnaby is best left to his own devices. He will just keep leading his terrible party into the oblivion it deserves to end up TBH.
Last election he had (from memory) an 11% swing for him. Even amongst all that scandal where the "religious family man" was outed splitting from his wife and having a pregnant mistress, who got a cushy $110k salary, job in parliament that she wasn't experienced for, he still grew his lead in New England.Barnaby is best left to his own devices. There needs to be a strong grassroots independent to take him on, as in many rural electorates. Another Tony Windsor type (but not Tony Windsor), often its a former local mayor who is seen to be wanting to represent the people.Last election he had (from memory) an 11% swing for him. Even amongst all that scandal where the "religious family man" was outed splitting from his wife and having a pregnant mistress, who got a cushy $110k salary, job in parliament that she wasn't experienced for, he still grew his lead in New England.

Agree. The guy campaigned against the cervical cancer vaccine for young women saying it might make 12 year old girls more promiscuous. The issue here in these country areas is that people have traditionally voted National regardless of which pile of shit they put in place. The swing for Joyce this time around was because the previous election Windsor actually stood. This time although there were a few candidates that looked good with specific things on their resumes, there was very much a need to dig for the information about them if you wanted to make your vote count by giving it to someone that wasn't going to just draw a wage and do nothing for the area. The local paper here (The Armidale Express) is so blatantly in favor of the National party that it's virtually a propaganda page. You get local electoral ads on TV and radio spouting absolute shit. Last election I had to put up with hearing that Labor planned to take away peoples right to farm on TV and radio among other blatantly ridiculous crap. So with a void of information available on other suitable ways to wisely use your vote a lot of people just went with who they traditionally voted for in this area in my opinion.

The Nationals pretty much represent mining now rather than farming. It's no surprise that any of them will jump out in defence of the fossil fuels industries.'Fear porn': Nationals senator Matt Canavan attacks scientists who released climate change report on Q+A
