Are we shooting ourselves in the foot by making too many promises.

Well I say, for once we have competition for spots.

Meaney will play fullback, pay has confirmed it.
Crichton will play wing
Smith other wing of course
Hoppa centre

Jackson lock
CHN second row
Martin/Mariner to battle it out

Bench
Elliot
Sue
Ogden
Cogger/Marshall king (please no)

Really the only spot that needs to be filled is the other centre position, for those of you who think holland is the answer please do not respond to my thread
Holland will 1000% start as the other centre and deservedly so

I don't think the recruits would be promised a starting spot, rather promised the opportunity and a clear or better pathway then their previous club.
Meaney - Stuck behind Ponga, Watson.
Cogger - Pearce, Lamb & Hodgkinson (at the time of signing), Watson.
CHN - Kikau, Fisher-Harris, Yeo
Crichton - Mansour, DWZ, Aitkens, Edwards, Phillips

I doubt we promised anybody a spot.
If it’s not in their contract, it’s not a promise.

Promised or not put in the effort or tough luck
Nu brown might be a good example of that

Foran won’t last 8 games so a half back position opens up.

I agree with this.

Elliots energy off the bench with hard running edges will kill it...

Jack Cogger on signing with us: https://www.playersvoice.com.au/jack-cogger-not-just-my-fathers-son/#WGAY1CZjHzghiHrS.97
"The Bulldogs offered me the chance to be a starting halfback."
"But Dean hasn’t made any promises about starting. I don’t want that, anyway. These days, a lot of nice-sounding promises are thrown around. You want to earn your jersey. Earn the respect of your teammates. Nothing should be just given to you.
If I prove myself, hopefully playing with Kieran Foran works well."

Also Pay has already stated that Montoya will play NRL (most likely in the centres next year).

So our backline will most likely be:

1. Hoppa
2. Crichton
3. Montoya
4. Holland
5. Smith

I think the club would have said to the players they have a great opportunity, taking into consideration the vacancies that are available through the departure of so many players

We have promised CHN, Meaney, Cogger and Crichton first grade football next season, I've seen quotes or videos from each of them confirming this throughout the year. The problem is this was before Lewis, Smith and Martin broke out into the scene.

Problem 1: We have Foran on a million dollar contract and Lewis looking like a future star so there is no room for Cogger unless he is playing utility off the bench.

Problem 2: We have CHN, Elliot, Jackson, RFM and Martin all playing for 3 positions and with Jackson being captain and CHN being promised a spot then that leaves 1 spot for 3 players and out of the three you have Elliot who is a Pay favourite, RFM who made the Kiwis team and Martin being our best goalkicker. None of the 3 will want to play from the bench.

If we honour the promises then it will result in some players becoming unsettled because they will be stuck on the bench or reserve grade whilst if we break them then it will turn off free agents in the future as we would be seen with a bad rep.
I think what you are alluding to is that they were promised a crack at first grade footy by being in our first grade train on squad.

Meany has a lot of work to do before he is even a consideration for first grade. He’s a reserve grader. Not sure why we even bought him.
