You can't pick your family.
You can't pick your kids.
Same goes for your rugby league team.

Where you live - IS who you support !
And just like family, you can't pick it !

If your birth city doesn't have a team : You adopt one.
But the day you do ... You adopt it for life !
That's the rules !

SO ... being a good fan is about being a good family member.

You can support them, love them, encourage, defend and cheer them on to great things ... but you can't abandon them.

Sure it's tough, but it's rewarding.

I understand sometimes your team isn't all you'd hoped it'd be ... or they don't make the right choices you'd hope they would make ... but good times OR bad, you should be there to support them.

You don't need to agree with them.
But you do have to stand by them.

Would you boo a family member for not succeeding ?
Would you write one off that isn't meeting academic expectations ?
Hell NO you wouldn't.
Same should apply to your team.

It's what being good family is all about.

Occasionally you might wish your team was more like another, and wish you had theirs ... but like kids and family, you CAN'T switch !

Your family might disappoint you constantly, and you might think one day "That's it I'm over it !" ... but YOU made a commitment to that team ! If we turn it around, you can't come crawling back. You'd be like the parent who walked out only to come back when that kid becomes a success ! It's WRONG !!!

You gotta stick it right through til the bitter end.
If you're out - Stay out ! You're not welcome back !!!
If you're in - You're in for the rest of your life !

:p

dogs can still win the comp. we haven't played well or really poorly eithier.

i'd rather them just be staying in touch with the top eight and start hitting their peak at about round 18-19 and finish at least between 3rd-5th leaving us with just as good a chance as any to win the comp.

Not sure if i entirely agree with that part, i live in an area of another team and wouldn't even dare supporting them and never have..

But i do agree with the rest

So if the team you support is like a family member, are you like a family member to that team too?

My answer = Your team is like your kid.

So you could follow another team instead but that'd be like running off on your wife to start a new family with a new woman. Or you could switch to watching only AFL, which would be like running off with another man...

Of course, just like an affair, you could cheer on another team for fun, just don't tell your wife.

Disagree.

Family members you can tell to wake their f-ing ideas up when they need a good kick up the clacker.

Can't do that with the team I support.

If the team was my family, then the coach is that grandfather that can be really stubborn and not listen to anyone because they are always right...

Fair comment???
