We don't need the Swans or any other AFL team to teach us how to catch the ball. We should invite Greg Brentnall up for a few weeks holiday to teach us. He was the best man under the high ball I have ever seen in rugby league. We should invite cement Gillespie to teach the forwards how to tackle, Baa Baa to teach them how to support the play and Peponis how to be a captain.

We have every resource we need in our past players.
rugby league has changed since the 1970's and 1980's

If you watch Slater, he;

1. Jumps toward the ball and brings his legs up into a crouching position. This enables him to trap the ball in his lap if it slips through his arms. His knees act as a barrier against a hit from an opponent. He automatically gets a penalty if he is touched while in the air.

2. Turns toward his own goal line so, if the ball does come loose, it will be a knock back and possession not conceded.

3. Has players to protect him and be ready to "crumb" any dropped ball.

Barba would be an even more awesome fullback if he learned this basic technique.

Slater has the closest catching the high ball technique I have seen to our greatest fullback Les Johns. Les did not wait flat footed under a falling ball where opposition could target him. Instead he stayed well back off to the side and the ran in and jumped up to take the ball and usually took off like lighetning through the pack. Watch Billy Slater and he does a similar thing. The key elements are:
1. By not standing under the falling trajectory of the ball the opposition cannot just run to the target fullback. If they do they find they have moved away from where the ball will land.
2. The opposition get no help in knowing where the ball is. Any opposition wanting to find the ball will have to have a look, thereby slowing down and taking their eyes off the fullback.
The result more space when catching the ball and less opposition once it has been caught.

Does that mean you are gonna be supporting Brisbane from now on?

those gay lords only know how to fumble and bumble around... They get a point even when they miss... There's not even a height restriction when they kick for goal. No cross bar or nothing... they just have to kick the ball in the general direction of the other team's goal and they're guaranteed at least one point.... freakin pathetic game with nothing but a bunch of gumbies playing it

*facepalm*

Do you not understand that AFL is heavily based on being able to catch the ball.
Do you also realise that we have trouble catching the ball.
Hence, we could use a few tips from them.

Do you see how that works? Good boy.
No! I do not support AFL period!!! you would think an NRL player on at least $350,000.00 per annum would know how the catch the little football wouldn't you Sunny Boy???
AFL do nothing to help NRL!! they do not even want to know about us so by the sounds of it you should take up supporting that other code Sunny Boy! so please go back to your room shut the door, do everyone a favour and give yourself an upper cut.

so you'd like to see barba and co keep dropping bombs would you?

look at the way slater catches bombs under pressure its afl style
Let's be truthful now, I don't think Matty Bowen, Josh Dugan, Billy Slater, Brett Stewart, Anthony Munichellowhateverhisnameis, Jarad Beale, Darious Boyde, Luke Burt, Jarad Hayne and Mr Gidley need a dumb ass AFL player showing them how to catch a NRL ball now do they?? and do you know why???? because they all have balls and they all know what it means to put their body on the line!!!
Ben Barba needs to learn how to do that in the first place if he doesn't, then he will keep P***ing up under the high ball, you will please note that the top try scorers played for teams that missed the eight in 2011.
I wonder how many tries we allowed because we let the high ball bounce in 2011???
Ben Barba will be great for us in 2012 if he can learn to put his body on the line in 2012!!

Looks like it's spreading...

Retired swan, Spider Everett, has signed on as the Titans kicking/catching coach.

Why don't we sign anyone that'll help us?

An afl catching coach, a wrestling coach, why don't we get these people if they're going to help us win?

I'd get an AFL coach for catching and kicking, and a soccer coach for goalkicking. Also, add in a dancing coach for post try celebrations.
also a soccer coach for when we get tackled high

I think this Spider wheteverhisnameis is also secretly a heart Surgeon, whilst teaching NRL players at the Titans to catch a ball he will perform a heart transplant for Jamal.
