Alot of discussion has been had about a 5 minute sinbin for minor foul play or professional fouls. But a more immediate concern is the offending team gain an advantage from knocking a player out of the match via foul play if the penalty is anything less than a send off.

I suggest if a player is unable to return to the field because of foul play the offending player should be sent off the field, however the offending team can bring another player back onto the field after 10 minutes.

The 18th man rule is not adequate enough and the player fouled out of the game is rarely going to be covered by a like for like replacement.

ie; if you were playing a gf and the opposition bench and 18th man contained no playmaker than it might be considered a reasonable risk to try and take one of the spine out because in the current climate refs are scared to pull the trigger on a send off

With the above amendment atleast you would end up with a 3 v 4 man bench

Nah refs would cheat with it. Eg shit side would cop the inconsistency of 10min bins. While elite players and top teams cop 5.

We can all sit here and think it would be a fair system, but it's the NRL they would fuck it up

Why does it have to be the 18th man? Why can't teams carry more than one player to cover for foul play?
Should have 4 players available to choose from in the case of foul play. 18th Prop 19th Edge Forward 20. Half/Hooker 21. Outside back

I guess because they would rot on the bench instead of playing in reserves.

I don’t think there should be sin bins or send offs at all, except for the most egregious and violent acts.
AFL has this right. They don’t have send-offs at all. The integrity of the contest has to be the most important consideration.
Have clear rules and extremely harsh suspensions, for foul play, but never mess with 13 on 13.
