Seeing as how we have a prolonged break at this time of year, why not have a game on the Thursday night as well. The AFL do it to great affect. The next day is a public holiday. The only thing you would have to manage is team turn around (e.g. have a team that played on friday/saturday the week before).

Thoughts?

2 games a day from fri-mon is bearable for me but AFL (this year) have ...

1x Thurs, 2x Sat, 1x Sun, 2x Mon, 1x Tues with 3 byes.

And they still average higher crowds then us with 4 weekday matches.

Risk of too quick a turnaround for some sides.
That can be managed easily. A few teams a year have the 5 day turnaround (Play sunday back up friday). The one rule the NRL has in place is that no team plays MNF then follow that up with FNF. So using that logic - play a Thursday game (and make it a decent game ffs) between teams that have played on the friday/saturday the week before (thats an option of 8-10 teams).

So: Thursday night game, 2x FNF, 2 SNF, 2 x Sunday Footy, 1 x MNF
