If Taafe doesn't play FB I don't think he is in the 17. I think we will start with Burto and Sex, with Hutch first man up. If Mann plays for us like he did for Newcastle he is the 14 everyday of the week. Turpin is backup.
Curran will be the 13 for sure. Toss up for the 14. personally I would have a player who can performs best at prop.

Every players will be given a fair go !!!
But we will have definites and many possibilities,
Form then loyalty will play a big part in selections,

Even though it is way too early, I predict this team based on the reasons explained below .

1 Taaffe...we don't have a supper halfback therefore he will be a fullback/halfback
2 Kiraz
3 Crichton...he is the best centre in the world, we need him there
4 Tracey...a utility back who's major obstacle is Xerri having amazing trials
5 JAC
6 Burton...has to be there
7 Sexton...deserves to be there based on his last seasons form in a very delicate position
8 King...his commitment and now extra few KG's should ensure his selection
9 Mahoney
10 Knight...experience and hopefully form will ensure his selection
11 Preston
12 Kikau
13 Curran...most qualified

14 Hatchison / Mann
15 Salmon
16 Hughes
17 RFM / Sutton
I wonder who the BOLTERS will be.

Its so hard aye...I didnt know the King had put on some kg's. Youd think he'd loose a few after, well you know, the one-on-one specialist training he's receiving, or giving. Might have to break the news to Knight.

there needs to be a back up for mahoney, his defence needs a lot of work, to many missed tackles at crucial times, based on last season interchange mahoney around the 15 minute mark, we need better defence around the ruck

Mahoney's defence is OK, it's when he is overloaded in defence he starts to miss tackles, we have signed Turpin and many other utilities !

I rekon he was over it by the end of last year and was granted early leave. Better cavalry this year...maybe sub him out late in the game to standing ovation!

Turpin is ya man for defence. Topped tackle count many time last year. Some games amassing near 70 tackles

Late Mail : King has apparently, subject to confirmation, put on some kg's (poor wife) and moves to prop shuffling young Hughes to the bench. In a surprise move Preston is promoted to lock in what seems a spoilt for choice situation. Dogs camp still tight lipped behind smoke screens about naming the 17. Bit of conjecture atm as competition for spots is fierce.

A warning that some selections may cause heart ache. There were some tough calls, sounds like everyone is training hard. If it was upto me I’d give this a nudge for Round 1.

1. Tracey
2. Kiraz
3. Criton
4. Burton
5. Xerri
6. Salmon
7. Sexton
8. Hughes
9. Mahoney
10. Knight
11. Kikau
12. RFM
13. King

14. Preston
15. Curren
16. Mann
17. Turpin/Morrin/Hutchinson/Taffe/Sutton/bolter (as in someone from nowhere)

I’ll pick my 17 depending on the opposition, game plan and how much confusion and drama I want to cause with emergencies and hype. The former and the latter seem to go hand in hand :grinning:

Sounds like Xerri is ready. Maybe only needs a crash course on NRL ‘interpretation’. Id like to go to that course. I doubt he’s forgotten how to catch footballs and run hard, or the 'interpretation' there of. Who knows where he’ll end up. I cant wait to see him out there. On paper (screen) he and Kiraz-a-mataz should be having field days.

All puppy guts does is tackle and help with the hard yards coming off our line. Work out something else for him to do in attack. Maybe pull out pencil n paper n take notes. For now if we cant sort points with Tracy/*Burton/*Criton/Sexton/King/Mahoney I’ll be worried. Hopefully Sexton can move the team around.

RFM gets a chance to prove his worth. No excuses, plenty of depth. If he goes good then potential in attack boarders on unstoppable, both sides of the field. Preston on the bench is more about keeping pressure on the starting squad. Id actually like to see him play lock but I also like to see King get back to his off loading best.
Where’s JAC ?

Where’s JAC ?
Yeah tough decisions mate. It just the hypothetical direction my hypothetical team want to hypothetically head. Nothing personal. He'll have the 'Josh Reynolds Social Utility Ambassador Role' but play more games. Especially round origin where I recon we'll loose our glamour boys Buton/Criton.

So JAC doesn’t make your starting side, and you’d put Xerri on his wing instead …

Interesting ..
