Often happens when you thrash the same team something like 52-6 only 2 weeks ago.

HNWP final on at the moment on NSWRL TV:
A few botched tries earlier, but then this happens.

In what universe is that NOT a try? Ref called a knock on.

Bulldogs Harvey Norman Womans Premiership side getting shafted like the NRL team.

Immediately after that bad call, Mounties get marched up field with a penalty, and then a repeat set.

Thankfully our defence held up, but then they strip with 2 in the tackle (which gets overlooked), and then lose the ball and it's claimed we touched it.

Scores are currently 0-0.

Should have been 3 tries to nil to Dogs, but we dropped the ball twice with line open.

You’d think at nil all near the hour mark it was a boring game, but some of the defence is insane. Especially just then when we stopped them scoring what looked to be a certain try.

It was a defence heavy game, but having said that we dropped the ball with the line wide open twice in the first half.

Then the no try call which was absolute garbage, and a penalty at the end from a dropped ball which got them in line for the field goal.

He played at least one game at 6 this year - was better there than on the wing - he has flair and attacking ability no doubt.
Did you watch the NSW Cup on the weekend? Sua had an excellent debut. Scored 2 and set 1 up. I really believe this kid had a big future for us.

Would hope either he or Mazzone will step up to fg in next 12 months - if Munro can surely they can as well

Based on my conversations with some club reps, Sua will be a mainstay in Cup next year, with the view to get him in the top 30. He's been impressive at training thus far. I remember watching him as a kid for Bass High, he carried them against the likes of St Gregs, St Pats, West sports and Endeavour. Very talented kid.

He seems to do a lot a of really good classy things and the occasional absolute "declan casey" type of concentration mistake - he will miss a goal from in front then kick two from the side line or take an afl type speccy mark to score a try then drop the kick off. Training with fg, putting on some muscle - elusive speed is worth a lot

Definitely. I doubt he kicks goals for Dogs in the long term. Only started playing wing the last couple of years too. I personally thought he would develop as a centre, but wing might be his position if he can nail that 'AFL Mark' more consistently.

Newtown beat Saints at the SCG by that score in 1973. Field goal by Ken Wilson who passed away in the last year or so.

2024 SG Ball Cup Season Preview: Bulldogs

CODE Sports
By Sean Teuma, Kevin Merrigan and Jason Hosken

It’s the competition that shines a light on the NRL’s future and with the talent lining up in SG Ball, this year is no exception. We preview all competing clubs, continuing with the Canterbury Bulldogs.

The SG Ball Cup is one of the most respected underage league competitions in the world, with a proven track record of producing NRL stars.

A handful even make the leap from U19s to first grade last year, signalling just how good this current crop is.

Check back regularly for our rolling season previews of all 16 SG Ball Cup teams.

CANTERBURY BULLDOGS

Captain: TBA

Coach: Steve Turner

Last season: 8th (5-4)

Why they will be competitive: The Bulldogs just missed out on a place in last season’s finals, but with the support of a respected junior development program they’ll be tough to keep down for long, and according to coach and former Bulldogs NRL star Steve Turner they are ready to make a move.

“There is a strong work ethic and connection among the group,” said Turner.

“Having a number of the club’s 2023 Harold Matthews Cup winning team in the squad has brought that competitive edge and they are a group that love their footy.”

Key fixtures: Roosters (round one), Knights (Round two) and Panthers (round three). Canterbury open the season with arguably the toughest draw in the competition. Pitted against three of last season’s top six teams in the first three weeks, the Bulldogs will probably need at least one victory to remain in touch with the frontrunners.

Players to watch: Logan Spinks is an Australian Schoolboys backrower and graduate from Canterbury’s North Coast academy. Highly skilled, he’s one of the groups leaders and is well respected among the group.

Halfback Mitchell Woods led the Bulldogs to last season’s Harold Matts title. After resisting the approaches of AFL and rugby, the highly regarded and competitive No.7 recently signed a long term deal at Canterbury. A local junior from St Christophers, the goalkicking playmaker has been earmarked for a bright future.

On the recruitment front, Alex Conti is a major signing from Balmain. Equally at home at home in the No.6 or halfback, the Junior Blues rep is a highly respected organiser with an astute kick game.

Squad: Latrell Fing, Cheldon Hayward, Hamish Wilson, Sosaia Kaufusi, Jethro Rinakima, Alex Conti, Mitchell Woods, Oliva Smith, Zaidas Muagututia, Massimo Mari, Logan Spinks, Sosefo Finau, Pat Young, Mitch Rogers, Bud Smith, Jed Reardon, Sosaia Alatini, Jayden Smith, Bailey Myers, Bronson Emery, Oscar Jorgensen, Joseph Teaupa, Shaye Fa’aonga, Roy Tatupu, Jet Day, David Leota, Sione Siulua, Sheldon Abbey, Tyrus Salanoa, Mo Hadid, Taj Matthews, Lachlan Mifsud, Chris Makhlouf, Kaleb Eaton, Taj Hughes
