Also would make the final 5 rounds pretty boring with most teams having nothing to play for.

Yep, and no way fox and 9 give up any games to make it happen, especially finals games

I would go the NFL system of a pre GF bye. In an era of concussions where it’s a 11 day stand down period a pre GF bye seems logical. Keep the system the same just add the bye in before GF.
