It’s a good question mate.
Perhaps two different issues though - filling their spots in the squad vs using their salaries as part of the cap.
My understanding was that we couldn’t fill their squad spots until after the appeal process was complete. However @Spoonman84 published a quote from Pay that seems to contradict that. Regardless, you’d think the club can spend the cap any way they’d like, so losing those two salaries but adding Thommo is independent of filling the total spots on the squad once the appeal process is complete.

Does that make any sense?? :-).
I understand what you are saying but doesn’t really make sense if that is the case unless the NRL lets us operate with less than 30 spots in squad. There would have to be more to that scenario like upgrade some younger players etc. and if CHN wins his appeal and wants to come back and we have spent the $$ wouldn’t be back this year anyway as we couldn’t pay him. Unless we haven’t spent all of his money and there is a bit left to pay half his contract for this year. Once again another assumption as we don’t really know the truth.

Clubs can operate with less than 30 spots prior to 30 June (normal year) or 03 August (this year). Remember we started the year with 29 spots, which post Port Mac went to 27 spots. Thommo makes that 28 and I guess if the rumours were true about Grub or Lafai for example that would be seen as ‘spot filling’ as well as spending the cap so perhaps it’s not an issue of not replacing spots as I originally thought I read somewhere and yes, the club would have to take into account the timeframe of appeal outcome, unless of course they had already decided that they didn’t want either player back regardless which is also a possibility.

I think you are supporting my point mate.. even if Laf comes we aren’t at 30? So that’s why I don’t think we spent CHNs money - maybe Oka’s. Cause if we did then the only option would be to upgrade another player on minimum wage to get to 30 players. For the record I think we should be able to spend the money but spend the money and not fill there spots doesn’t make sense. Cheers.

How long is it going to take for the decision of their appeals?

Souths can get Inglis and Burgess medically retired within a month or two whereas we have to wait five months to find out what's happening with CHN and Okunbur...

The media narrative is that Pay is a good bloke and deserves better because the board is not giving anything away to the media.

Yet this same panel was the one that thought Mary should be sacked a few weeks ago lol

We’re currently 28 mate, so 2 open until 3 August - unless there is something else we don’t know. I agree it’s likely both are done (spots/cap). Interesting to see how it plays out over the next couple of weeks.

JO had his hearing two weeks ago and the only commentary was that it would take ‘several weeks’ for a result. To my knowledge CHN hasn’t had his hearing yet. Why it takes so long I don’t know but suggest that’s part of what hasn’t been made public and it’s not just a matter between the club and the NRL as perhaps medical retirements are/were.

Why is this lil kent even still here
He pollutes the forum with jibberish and shit
Tell him he’s boyfriend is gone and won’t be re-signed
He may even be gone by Monday 5pm!
It's why I suggested for posters to stop replying and/or reacting. That will cut down at least some of the pollution won't it? :grinning:

It's a joke to be honest.. It severely impacts the club when we have two less roster spots and up to 600k less to use this season while it takes five months to come to a decision that should have been made ages ago.

I hope so mate... he makes us so much better in attack on that edge...
Gary Warburton would look like Steve Menzies compared to Jackson in attack at the moment.

Haha.. Gaz Warburton.. I remember he used to wear SBWs no 11 jersey and it was one of the most depressing sights..
Haha yep. It was a like for like replacement! Agro was one of the many greats of that team.

As were Roberts, Holdsworth, Briggs, Armit, Winitana, Nanai, Kouparitsas and Youngquest.. Such club legends.
