Can't medically retire him unless he agrees.

All he needs is one Dr and it will end up in the courts.

Look at Canberra.

They tried it with CHN. He didn't play ball and they are stuck with him.
There have been a lot more that have agreed to retire than those who haven’t.

It’s a tricky one too as he’s got 3 years left on his deal including a PO in the final year - so he’d have to be well compensated. Sharks similar with Finucane - 2 years to go and he’s busted. #BuyersRemorse

That’s why as slow and painful as it is I like the approach we’re taking - measured and not offering deals that sting like Napa or Flanagan again.
How did south’s do it with Inglis and burges?

He is on $1 million a season Cows pay $250k Doggies pay $750k...That's all she wrote :tonguewink:
I'm not sure he is worth 750k now, certainly won't be in 2 or 3 years at the rate he has been deteriorating

True.

But if the player isn't ready to retire and have a contract the club is stuck with the player.

The Club doctor/s have to sign a stat dec that the player has sufficient medical issues as to no longer be able to play.
The player has to want to be medically retired and agree to having the contract terminated.
The club has to medically retire the player and submit a contract termination on those grounds to the NRL.
The NRL doctor/s have to sign off that the player has sufficient medical issues to be retired.
Finally the NRL has to sign off and allow the contract to be terminated.

Don’t know all the details but GI did have mental health issues at the time and Sam had his own legal woes and was offered a job with the club so both may have been agreeable. Not saying that’s fact to be clear.

South accomplished it because from I read they may have had a dodgy doctor .. something about needles and a blind spot in the Souths car park ..

I don’t think south did all that.

Even if they did other clubs have tried and failed, comes down to the NRL in the end and souths get away with what others don't.
We need to get some heavy hitters and a Hollywood movie star on our side who’ll help promote the game in the U.S and Vegas, & then they’ll kiss our asses as well …

Maybe not, but they’re paying a significant chunk. He’s currently on $1m/year -for 4 more years- and not even guaranteed a starting spot? Surely they’re desperate to move him on?
The cowboys might look at more as how much salary cap they can free up - eg $500 k?
And what they can do with $500k.
Rather than what they have to keep paying for a bad decision.
My main concern is actually the 4 years.
In 2-3 years we may not need him.
2 years on $500k might be worth the risk.
But 4 years?
