Quiet obvious really, Budget stop gap NRL players until some real meat hits the market and also buys a couple of years of competitiveness
until juniors start rolling through.

People said they dont want 40 point plus thrashings, this will probably ensure that.

I guess with Flanagan going we don’t have a back up hooker. So don’t mind him.
I can see what they are doing here with recruitment. Mostly 2 year deals, people that hard trainers no fuss solid footballers to put around Mahoney, Burton, Crighton, kikau etc until these kids start coming through from Flagg

Turpin isn't going to offer much in attack but he's rock solid in defence. In 4 starts this year from round 14-17, he made 214 tackles, only missing 5.

He made 442 tackles this season and only missed 12. By comparison Mahoney missed 131 tackles. We needed a better backup hooker. He's a reliable backup.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gus is playing it safe until Nov 1 so he doesnt blow his budget for the 2025 props on sale.

In saying that i would still be going after 2 cheapies like Seyfarth and Mclean.

If Ben Hunt asked Gus to sign Turpin, then I'm all for it.

But if he didn't....we could be looking at the worst fielded team in NRL history and might win less than 4 games next season....

We aren't going backwards, although we do need a couple middles we have better players coming in to replace who was released.

Why are people so upset about the Turpin signing like he's on big money? He's the Flanagan replacement who is getting paid way less than Flanagan. He'll most likely play NSW Cup & only play NRL when Mahoney is not playing.
