Looked horrible in slo mo. I feel for Joey Manu as his face looked pretty bad. I dont want to see Latrell or any of the marquee players miss a finals series as you want to see the best players playing in the finals. However, this will be touch and go and I cant see him getting a free pass on this one.
Penrith and Storm are cheering after last night’s events

I haven’t seen many defend him. Even Bennett didn’t defend him.
No just tried to 'deflect' the heat by mentioning players from the other team who are like his superstar Latrell...

The worst part for me was if Manu hadn't persisted, nothing would have been done. Such a late and blatant hit (irrespective of whether it was aimed at the head) should have been a bin offence straight-away. Then to see him spike the ball after scoring straight at the held down players head was a disgrace.
That is so true and what is most frustrating.
Even the commentators said that if Manu had not come in the way he did no one would have even picked up on it. NO action at all was taken or looked like being taken until that happened and the incident replayed several times with the commentators saying " Oh wait that doesn't look good"

Let’s be very f###ing honest @NRL, if Hetho or Thommo did what Latrell did last night, intent or no intent, it would have been a straight send off (not a sin bin) and a 8-10 week suspension. Gould was spot on when he said if Manu didn’t get agitated (and it took him two goes before it actually drew attention), there’s a strong chance the incident wouldn’t have even drawn a penalty.. what game are they (Ash Klein as the lead ref and Henry Perenara managing the Bunker) watching???

Contact to the head with force has been atrociously policed since Magic round, it is a lottery, no one knows which way it’s going to go. From magic round, supposedly the game changer for player safety, it’s gone from a sin bin for contact to the head and a send off for contact to the head with force, to, a penalty for contact to the head (if you stay down) to a “lucky dip” where there is contact to the head with force.

What is killing the game are the on-field theatrics - you stay down = penalty, you get to your feet = play on…. I don’t understand how a ref, touch judge and bunker can spot the most minor knock on but they don’t see initial contact made to the head? This is forcing inconsistency between those who stay down and those who get on with it. If every player who gets a touch with any decent force to the head or neck stayed down, the game would go for 100min and we’d have 40 penalties - its going to ruin your product, fans are over it…

Crusher tackles in particular need to be seriously revisited the sport naturally lends itself to players getting themselves in precarious positions and now we’re seeing the ball carrier deliberately getting under the defender to create a situation where there is some pressure on the neck. Before this becomes a farce, its the ones where the defender is over the attacking player in that cradle position and slams the opponent down with force, they’re the ones to go hard on. This entire situation is getting out of control and quickly… just ask poor Thommo in particular.
Whoa there! Hang on a minute.

Let's not be too hard on Lateral. He is a really good guy and although he committed a deliberate, forceful, raised elbow / shoulder to Manu's head which caused a depressed fracture of Manu's cheekbone and ended his season, it was just one of those things. It was just a bit of rough and tumble. What happens on the field stays on the field and all that. No sour grapes. Lateral already served a very harsh penalty by being sin binned. Those ten minutes in the bin could have been vital to the result and it was very difficult for Lateral to be off the field for such a long time. There was also some talk that he may have bruised his elbow and / or shoulder or whatever the point or points of contact were with Manu's head.

So you have to feel bad for Lateral. With all the above taken into account and his recent prior 4 week suspension for similar offence, I expect the NRL will say at worst fine him a few dollars. But he is such a good guy and foul play is not part of his game that it's better that not be charged at all. Also the NRL don't want to harm Souths chances in the finals by suspending him. Ring the bell and glory glory and all that. Ring the bell just like they did before the 2014 GF against us which had a pre-determined result.

In all seriousness, if that were Hetherington or Thompson or any Bulldogs player the NRL would be giving a suspension measured in months, not weeks.

It is hard to understand why Mitchell who is a dirty niggling c**nt with a history of this kind of sh!t is somehow treated as immune to what our players would suffer and have suffered at the hands of the supposedly impartial judiciary.

How could a free pass be justified tho?

TB has been saying it all year, because his name is “Jack Hetherington” he has a target on his back.

Ash Klein would have sent Jack off in a heartbeat for similar… I have zero doubt about that.

I predict this fukkwit will end up in jail once he finishes playing.
He has had a few off field issues not serious enough to be considered jail time but he is on the right track...This one he responded with the reason being that he was defending his Mum....2019

Sydney Roosters star Mitchell was issued with a criminal infringement notice by police for failing to quit a licensed premises on Saturday.

It was alleged Mitchell argued with security as a group of men were ejected following a fight at Old Bar Tavern near his hometown of Taree.

And this one........

South Sydney NRL star Latrell Mitchell has avoided conviction for a firearms charge stemming from a camping trip at his NSW Mid North Coast property in April this year, when a coronavirus travel ban was in place.

Key points:
  • Latrell Mitchell has been sentenced to a 12-month conditional release order for giving a firearm to an unauthorised person
  • It stems from a weekend camping trip to his property at Caffreys Flat, near Taree
  • Fellow player Josh Addo-Carr is yet to be sentenced after pleading guilty to using an unauthorised firearm
He pleaded guilty to giving a firearm to a person not authorised by a licence or permit.

Magistrate Claire Girotto sentenced him to a 12-month conditional release order on Monday at Taree Local Court.

"That means if you come to court for anything else, this comes back to bite you," she said.
Shows his lack of respect for the judicial system within the NRL....

Mitchell, who rolled his eyes during parts of the hearing, walked straight out of League Central and chose not to speak to the media.

AND if you search the net you will find plenty of articles that reinforce the fact that he does look to hurt players ....and he gets it wrong...a lot....

Roosters' Mitchell avoids NRL suspension

South Sydney enforcer Sam Burgess has leapt to the defence of Latrell Mitchell, declaring the Roosters star "no grub" despite forcing the Englishman off the field with a high shot in Friday's explosive NRL encounter.
Mitchell on Saturday avoided suspension after being fined for a grade-one careless high tackle that led to Burgess needing a 15-minute spell for head injury assessments.
Burgess admitted he'd have fumed if the Roosters reeled in Souths' lead during his absence, but said clips around the ears were part of the game.
"Listen, Latrell's not a grub," Burgess said.

"He plays the game hard, he gets the game. He's a physical guy, he wanted to be physical and sometimes a player crosses the line and gets it wrong.
"I understand that. I'm exactly the same."

Hetherington was sent off this season for a high shot. The player stayed down then got up and laughed. Mitchell went out to hurt a player last night and was not sent off. The damage he did to the player was for all to see. Its now become obvious players are targeted by refs like Hetherington and Thompson and their record is only there because they are not treated like other players. Other players have got away with what both these players have done so they have no record. A rule means nothing in this game unless all are treated the same. This game is a disgrace .

Add Luke T, Victor R and JWH - all would have been sent off

That is what surprised me the most. How often do we see play called up after the bunker has spotted something that we all missed?
He froze. Knew he was on a hiding to nothing. Had to stop and think about this one. Manu forced him to act in the name of all that's decent. Why it took so long :grinning:

Let's not excuse the two touch judges and the referee either. They were right there and did nothing......

Yeah it was like the deer in headlights thing, that stupid dumb look they get when they can't make up their mind to stay or go or run straight at you.....:tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Whilst we are on the subject of failing to spot something we all missed, the 2nd last try from Paulo last night, the “should have been” double movement, it’s clear he falls short and is trying to get to the line and raises the arm to get there… it doesn’t even get a second look. The Bulldogs never get those calls, 100% goes to a video ref and probably gets overturned…

The players certainly had some input on Facebook as did an ex ref with the plea to leave the game alone and stop all the new rule changes..The thing is only certain elite players and coaches get onto this so called innovations committee so that in itself means they will be on board with things that will suit their coaching agenda...
The solution
The only way for the game to recover is to bring it BACK TO NORMAL SPEED and harnessing intelligence endurance and the real body contact rewarding around the legs tackles, This will rid the game from out of control high shots and injuries caused by the speed of the game.

Latrell is the new Inglis... Can kill a young family whilst drink driving and would get a slap on the wrist whilst admitting mental health issues.
