The Wests Tigers face a fresh fight to retain Dally M winger of the year David Nofoaluma with the South Sydney Rabbitohs poised to make a play to sign the robust speedster for 2022.
Nofoaluma had a breakout 2020 season for the Tigers, scoring 17 tries in 20 NRL matches and collecting the club’s best and fairest Kelly-Barnes Award award.
With Corey Allan switching from South Sydney to Canterbury-Bankstown effective immediately as of Monday, the Bunnies are now eyeing off making a play to lure the Wests Tigers winger for next season.

Queensland State of Origin debutant Allan trained with the Bulldogs on Monday after agreeing to a three-year deal to play under Trent Barrett at Canterbury-Bankstown.
Nofoaluma enjoyed his most consistent season in the NRL last year with Fox Sports Lab numbers confirming the Dally M winger of the year made 112 tackle busts, 19 line breaks and seven try-assists.
His 112 tackle busts ranked 4th in the NRL and the seven try-assists were equal first with NSW Origin flyer Josh Addo-Carr for most try assists from a winger.

Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipanetlis enjoys an extremely tight bond with Nofoaluma and is adamant the Tigers will do everything within reason to ensure the local junior remains at Concord.
“I had dinner with David last night where I reaffirmed the club’s commitment about how we want him to be at the Wests Tigers for life,” Hagipantelis said.
“We absolutely want David to be a one club player and he’s told the club this is also his preference.”

The sticking point for Wests Tigers is the length of Nofoaluma’s new contract. The club wants to sign the 27-year-old to a three-year deal until the end of 2024.
But Nofoaluma’s agent Sam Ayoub is pushing for a four-year deal.
The off-contract Tigers winger has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Parramatta Eels to replace Blake Ferguson at the end of this year but this has been strongly refuted.
Both South Sydney and Wests Tigers have also been linked with Panthers grand final winger Josh Mansour.
Mansour has been told by the Panthers he is free to leave to join a rival NRL club.

QLD Origin fullback Corey Allan has signed with the Canterbury Bulldogs on a three-year deal, following an early release from his contract with South Sydney.

The 22-year old made his State of Origin debut in the 2020 decider - a game the Maroons won to claim an upset victory.

He had a year to run on his deal with the Rabbitohs under Wayne Bennett, but has been granted an early release to join the Dogs until the end of 2023.

New coach Trent Barrett said Allan was joining a host of quality recruits to the club.

"We have worked hard in the off-season to sign the right players in terms of their ability and attitude and we believe that Corey will be a great addition for our club," Barrett said.

"Everyone has seen what Corey can do over the past two seasons and we believe that he has the potential to be an outstanding player and someone that adds both quality and versatility to our backline.

"Corey will join us immediately and start training with the squad from today and everyone is looking forward to him being part of the Bulldogs."

Canterbury have already signed Kyle Flanagan and Nick Cotric for this season, as well as NSW speedster Josh Addo-Carr and Penrith youngster Matt Burton for 2022.

Allan has played 29 NRL games to date for the Rabbitohs, spending time on both the wing and at fullback.

Bulldogs chief executive Andrew Hill spoke positively about the club's roster changes.

"With what we believe has been an excellent off-season in terms of adding quality to our playing group, Corey's signing is another great step forward in regard to what we are building here at Belmore," Hill said.

"By adding a State of Origin player to our squad and someone who has the potential to continue to grow as a footballer, we believe it is a major positive for our club and fantastic news for our members and fans."

Another quality signing by the club. He is not an elite level player, but im confident he can improve our squad and improve his own play in the future.
Still a little concerned as to where this leaves Averilo though. I was super keep to see him play FB this year. I guess thats off the table now, or perhaps Barrett never planned to play him there. Who knows.

I don't believe that Averillo was ever in the frame to play NRL fullback, NSW Cup fullback is more likely.

Maroons fullback Allan joins Bulldogs on three-year deal

Corey Allan is officially a Bulldog after cashing in on his Queensland Origin debut and rapid NRL rise with a three-year deal at Belmore.

Allan trained with his new club on Monday after South Sydney granted him permission to explore his options elsewhere given Latrell Mitchell blocked his path to the Rabbitohs' No.1 jumper.

A breakout 2020 campaign that ended with a Maroons debut at fullback debut saw Allan's value and standing rise accordingly, with Bulldogs coach Trent Barrett chuffed at adding another quality recruit to his ongoing rebuild.

"We have worked hard in the off-season to sign the right players in terms of their ability and attitude and we believe that Corey will be a great addition for our club," Barrett said.

Analysing the Bulldogs' 2021 draw
"Everyone has seen what Corey can do over the past two seasons and we believe that he has the potential to be an outstanding player and someone that adds both quality and versatility to our backline."

The three-year deal ties Allan to the Bulldogs until the end of 2023 and sees him join the likes of Nick Cotric, Kyle Flanagan and Jack Hetherington as off-season recruits.

The 22-year-old's signing has him in line for the fullback role that has been rotated between Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, Will Hopoate and Nick Meaney in recent seasons.

While more than happy to accommodate Allan in 2021, Rabbitohs head of football Mark Ellison acknowledged that taking Canterbury's offer made sense for the rising star in South Sydney's release statement.

"Corey has done a great job for our club over the past two seasons and he goes to his new club knowing he has the respect of everyone at Souths," Ellison said.

"His preferred position, and his best position, is fullback and the opportunity to play in that position on a regular basis is not there with us.
"He feels he will have a better opportunity to play fullback at his new club, on an extended and improved deal than that which he had with us.

"We felt it would be unfair to stand in the way of Corey progressing his career somewhere else, he will always be a Rabbitoh, and we wish him and his partner Teigan all the best for the future."
