I am far from happy with where we sit on the ladder, and our gun signings aren’t firing yet..
But…….there is clearly improvement
We have just played last years grand finalists the past 2 weeks, and we lost by 20 in both games..
Last year..that would have been 30+
We scored 3 tries against Souths, and could have had at least 5.
We got monstered by Melbourne,but barring a few,who doesn’t?
Manly have been formidable the last few weeks, and yet it took a field goal to finish us off AT BROOKVALE!!!
We should have beaten the Broncos, but the ref fell into a coma when it mattered.
We got lucky in the final minutes against the Cows, but we were resilient in NQ and got the points .
We are no where near a top 8 team at this point in time, but the improvement is there.
Burton is learning his craft at 6 and won’t learn it overnight…stability in his halves partner will help him a lot quicker.
JMK isn’t the choice hooker, but he has been improved over last season.
TPJ looks to have tempered his aggression..at least for now..lol
Dufty is dangerous at 1,and that’s what we need..it takes time to learn a new teams structure and when he can push up.
We just finished round 5….ROUND 5 PEOPLE!!!
If we go backwards against the Broncos next weekend, and fail to fire a shot against the Roosters, then throw the toys out of the cot.
FFS…half our team is learning to play a completely different structure to what they have been used to.
Someone said before the season started, that it could take half a season for the team to gel..might have been Gus.
These guys aren’t robots that are pre-programmed..they need to learn each week.
I still see us winning around 7-9 games by seasons end.

With Kikau and Mahoney in 2023 that'll solve a couple of problems we have.
We really need another strike player for the right edge, be it a centre or edge back rower, we just don't seem to have anyone that can run a decent line.
Herbie Farnworth is who we need to make a play for.....he will give us the strike power that we need out wide...he has pace, strength and he is elusive......he will definitely add a new dimension out wide...Burns is a plodder and Averillo offers no impact

I'm honestly not too concerned, but rather frustrated.

We have gun duumy half and genuine edge back rower coming. Both world class.

My concern for next year is who will be our 1, 3, 4 & 13. If we can cover these we will be contenders.

Now why a 1? As good as Dufty can attack, we need a 1 who can defend. He can't. A good fullback would have saved at least 2 of those tries today
Need at least one quality centre and another young centre with potential....when was the last time we signed a quality centre....Farnwarth is our man...ffs make it happen

The Barrett era is the worst we have witnessed as fans. The fade outs in games, the lack of belief. Poor D & attack.
The stupid 6 again infringements just kills us....we give away penalties because we can’t handle the speed of the ruck

Mahoney and kikau will help, but we need a good even young ball playing lock, because that pressure need to come off Flanagan and Burton.
Averillo needs to go he is weak crap. Jackson was done 3 years ago, Marshall king is a dumbass.
Our centres need to pull their fingers out or piss off, and we need better front rowers.
Our centres are not up to NRL standard.....they offer nothing absolutely nothing

He's a good player but can't see him leaving QLD with the Dolphins after him too.
I'd like to see us have a crack at Briton Nikora to play on the right edge.

Agree, we need a strike centre to take advantage of JAC, Herbie would be a great asset. Alamoti hopefully is physically ready to go by 2023.

Money talks and if we sign a quality half back we will be able to attract quality players but you need to remember there are not many quality centres available so we really need to target him...Alonati has potential but he is not quite ready yet and need at least one quality strike centre who will free up Jac ...

I have been a Bulldog/Berries supporter for a very long time and wanted Barrett to be a success as a coach but I believe he is out of his depth and should be replaced, with whom who knows. Our team does everything in slow motion, Duffty is OK, Naden and Burns are not first-graders, Addo-Carr is frustrated, Burton has been disappointing, Flanagan has been good since returning, Jackson should retire, Pangai should play his normal game, Vaughan is probably the best prop we have, Thompson is not used correctly and JMK is too slow @ dummy-half which has a flow-on effect. What has happened to Jackson Topine could he be turned into a ball-playing lock? Come on Bulldogs get back to basics give us supporters something to be proud of.

Any chance the coach’s success at the Panthers was just based on the ability of the players?
Arguably their attack has improved over the last year and a bit
They have a half who will probably be regarded as all time top 3 or 5 halfbacks by the time he’s finished
When Joey was taking Newcastle to grand finals that squad had no right to make without him, nobody was crediting the Knights’ “attack coach” with that

To give some perspective.....Sharks went into the storm match the best defence in the league and top 4. Storm put 34 on them. So they can belt good teams down there. Our loss doesn't look as bad.

There isn't any bandaid fix for where we are at. Gus is the man to get us out of this but as suggested already it's going to take time.

The issue we have is most of our recruits are coming to us motivated by money. If you sat them down and told them pick 3 teams you'd like to play for, we wouldn't be one of them but we offer them overs to get them. It looks like a positive thing when it happens but in our case good players leave a good system and come to us with the big price tag so they lose that sense of having to prove themselves like they did at there previous clubs. Because they are signed to the highest bidder they don't have that passion for the club, they aren't a junior of ours, often their form declines but they still get paid regardless. It's not just us, it's most teams that have been at the bottom for a while.

This is what worries me about someone like kikau. He is leaving all his mates and great system for the cash. Will we get the same out of him even though we are paying more, probably not.

It's the same as any workplace. You get a good offer, if youre happy and performing well you want to stay where you are. Your boss can't match the offer, you weigh it up and put family first so you leave. The new place is nothing like where you come from, you aren't happy but you get paid good money so you just turn up, do what you have to then switch off. Not everyone is professional in that sense by giving their all, some are happy to do the minimum and collect the cheque.

This is what worries me and why I think our rebuild will be longer than most people expect. We haven't got the big pool of juniors who have all played together and are mates, willing to sign for less to stay together such as Penrith atm. The players we recruit are coming for the $$$, you can see on their faces at times that they are having second thoughts. Players such as JAC, Burton, Naden, you can see the regret in their face at times and sooner or later the honey moon period of change will wear out and we get that player who is just going through the motions.

I hope I'm wrong but it's just something I've noticed.

Stimson is playing well why contract time baby, we need to focus on recruiting the right people, juniors from country areas there tougher, players with leadership qualities, so when a guy comes in there's some leadership and winning mentallity

Morris would have been the last right? Can't believe we didn't make a play for Gagai.

Paul Alamoti has great potential but still at least 12 months away. Maybe more

We can have another clean out but seriously this current side looks nothing like last year's and we absolutely still suck balls.
That’s because we still have the same shit hooker and same shit captain.

The fact remains that Barret has not improved the team at all since he started. If anything we are worse with better players.

Gould needs to be as ruthless as he was with Cleary and Hook.

He keeps percisting with Penriths formation in attack, however we don't have the half back to pull it off. Anyone can see he needed to be more pragmatic and play half a side with this roster, at least to build some confidence.
the system works though so keep building a squad that can play to that system so we start winning and winning the big games.
