Cowboys skipper Johnathan Thurston has been ruled out for 3 to 4 weeks with a knee injury, as North Queensland’s season goes from bad to worse.
Scans this afternoon revealed Thurston had suffered a tear in his right knee during the Cowboys’ 24-14 loss to the Warriors last weekend.
The Test halfback will undergo surgery tomorrow.
Cowboys Coach Ian Millward will name a replacement halfback for the clash with Brisbane later in the week.
The injury is likely to keep Thurston out for up to a month but coach Ian Millward said he was hopeful he could have his star playmaker back within three weeks.
"It was just picked up in scans today, we thought he would be right but there's just a small issue there," Millward told AAP.
"He needs to get it done, he gets it done and it's only short and sharp.
"(Winger) John Williams had it done earlier this year and he was only out for three weeks so we're hoping we'll have him (Thurston) back within three or four weeks."

Won't be there when we verse the Cows in a few weeks
Probably not a good thing IMO to verse an understrength team seeing as though we are no chance of the finals and trying to build for next year...
