More states play AFL than League.
And NRL is followed more in 2 of the top 3 states by population.

AFL is definitely bigger across the board, but on the east coast - NRL is king

Footscray, who became the Westerm Bulldogs, have been known as the Bulldogs since the 1920s. We only adopted the moniker in the late 70s. So might be drawing a long bow to claim first dibs on the name.

It is a pain though.

When Footscray changed their name in 1996 to Western Bulldogs the agreement was to always use the full name to avoid confusion.

Note the web addresses;
bulldogs.com.au
westernbulldogs.com.au

We should remind them of that obligation.

I am totally sick of getting sucked into reading media about the WESTERN BULLDOGS that is masquerading as being about us. The agreement as I understand it was for the AFL team to use the Bulldogs name and Bulldog Logo as long as they were always referred to as the WESTERN BULLDOGS.

Time for us to lodge an official complaint.

You want to know what's worse? When Nate Myles was involved in some incident while at the Roosters. The Telecrap or SMH, one of them, reported the story. Then they showed a picture of Nate Myles, a then-current Roosters player, in the Bulldog uniform. I'm also pretty sure they referred to him as "Former Bulldog Nate Myles" - pieces of shit they are.

People do realise the Western Bulldogs were known as the Bulldogs before your team.

Not true, they were called “Footscray”, they only adopted the bulldogs as part of their name when they changed it to “Western Bulldogs” in 1996.

If you want to get real technical they should be called the Campsie Berries or Campsie Bulldogs.
