Arguably the best move the club has made since Fergie.

Having a football director at least gives us a chance of getting it right.
The power dynamics will be interesting. Murtorgh is the football director, Fletcher the technical director and Rangnick soon to be director of football

its been reported he will take up a 2 yr consultancy role
very vague on what that could actually be
but as most would suggest - probably DOF - which means he will need to bring in a manager that has the same vision - and that aint Poch

Murtorgh and Fletcher are part of the team responsible for suggesting him. Rangnick's 2 year consultation is to coach the coaching team.

I wonder if the appointment of Rangnick is setting the scene for Tan Hag next season ???

That seems to suggest that he is not bringing his own coaching staff, which if true is disappointing.

A footballer philosopher, he demands a lot of power at a club and that’s been the main reason he hasn’t coached one of the super clubs.

He rejected Chelsea before Tuchel and Spurs before Nuno. Chelsea wanted him on a shorter contract and he publicily turned it down saying he didn’t want to be seen as a short term option. At Spurs he didn’t want to relinquish power to Levy and their DOF.

He took Hoffenhiem from the Bundesliga third division up to the first division and even had them top of the league for half the season in his first or second year in the league , before slowly falling due to injuries and insufficient squad depth.

He then turned Schalke into a side that consistently challenged for champions league spots and become one of the best clubs in Europe for producing talent.

He was the main man behind taking RB Leipzig up the German divisions and into the champions league as well.

His teams are about quick vertical play, and his teams are relentless pressing sides, similar to Liverpool.

It’s a very good move for the club, he is known for modernizing clubs and it’s exactly what we need at the moment. He is going to be the de facto director of football after this season.
Fair enough.. If he can be half as good as Klopp and Tuchel have been then it will be a great move..

Miss out on the top 4 and you’re back to square one. Ragnick is a risky move if you ask me .
Man Utd is a big club, they are not Hoffenheim or a small team that need to be promoted .
He has never tested himself at a big club hence has no pedigree coaching big teams .
The other thing being overlooked is that he wasn’t even the 3rd choice option for your clubs management . Pocchetino , Zidane and Valverde all declined .

Rangnicks style is closer to Poch than it is to Ten Hag. Both favour a high press and arent really possession based sides.

Ten Hag comes from the Dutch (Cruyff) school of thought, his players have good off the ball movement and they are a good possession side. However, he did spend some time in Germany and it shows in the way his teams defend.

I actually think Poch and Rangnick would clash personality wise, whereas Rangnicks out spoken nature would suit the quiet nature of Ten Hag.

I’m not sure where he was in the pecking order, but I can’t see them preferring Valverde over him and we knew Zidane was no chance.

You wouldn’t get better than him for an interim manager.

Yeah seems like his assistant is joining him.

Youd expect most of the current lot to go at the end of the season when the next manager comes in and brings his own team
What's going to happen to the current coaching team is up in the air at the moment. Too much "he said, she said" with some claiming they had differing opinions with Ole and that the club only just gave them 3 year contracts and have invested in them long term

Ragnick's first team selection and formation will be interesting to say the least.

Just watched a video where he states how much he dislikes sideways and backwards passing.

You'd have to think the likes of Carrick would eventually leave to pursue a managerial job elsewhere.
